Today was fairly slow, I was assigned to the recovery ward so all I could do was follow the nurses as they were checking on patients. Although the mother who's cesarean I saw was in the ward and I found it important that I saw her after her surgery, I guess the continuity of care is really important for me. After placement we all headed back to the house to pack. It was weird packing up everything that you'd lived with for three weeks into a backpack only to be unpacked again at our next destination. Friday night was also a night of goodbyes, there were a lot of students leaving and some were staying in hotels overnight. So there were a few sad goodbyes of people that I had grown close to. We lit lanterns and made wishes and set them off into the night sky. Then we lit fireworks, probably the most dangerous thing I've done since being in Asia. (Other than getting into tuk tuks with crazy drivers) the fireworks were put into a metal gun shaped thing and were pointed into the sky before being lit. Then there was the wait...not knowing what second it may explode. Until finally your ear drum felt like it had shattered and seconds later there was an explosion in the sky above. That was a lot of fun and a good way to end my time in Chiang Mai.
