Back to the early morning wake ups, it'll be so lovely to have a sleep in next weekend! Up at 7 ready to leave at 8 before a 40 minute drive to the hospital before we snooze while we was for our doctors. There are so many different placements that you can go on there is always rotations within the placement. Except for me, because I'm just doing ob/gyn for three weeks. So because I knew my way around the different wards and had seen many procedures I would do the explaining bit. Anyhow, our doctor finally arrived and asked us where we wanted to go because there wasn't much happening in the wards and so I asked whether we could jut be shown around to introduce the new students around the hospital and to familiarize themselves with the different wards. And we found ourselves in the labour room next to a woman who was being induced because of her high blood pressure. Although she was only 5cms she was being pumped full of synthetic oxytocin so I knew that she wasn't too far away from giving birth so we decided to sit and wait until we were invited into the delivery room. 30 minutes later we scrubbed up into purple scrubs specific to the delivery room and were able to watch my second natural birth at Narkornping Hospital. This woman however, needed an episiotomy which I found the hardest thing to watch so far because it is something you could imagine being the most painful thing to recover from! (I asked the doctor about the episiotomy rate on Thailand was told that 80% of women have one, i was so shocked!) But in this instance it was needed so that the baby could be born safely and quickly because the mothers blood temperature was rising an that was a danger for both the mother and the baby. But a few minutes before 12pm a little boy was born and there was a tear or two as his lungs became clear and he cried for the first time.
It was then time for lunch before coming back to the Gap Medics house where Sophie and I booked some more of our trip, lucky we did it today because the area that we want to stay in was almost booked out
