I want to move to Rome.
I see the Colosseum and the Arch of Constantine and the Roman Forum and Trajan's Forum every single day just in passing and it never gets boring. Plus, the cheese here is really nice. Yesterday I went a-wandering down to the Piazza Della Reppublica and caught an open top bus around the city which was great, and it had an english audio tour that told you exactly what you were seeing as you drove by. I hopped off at the Ara Pacis which was ridiculously exciting but then it was closed so I walked to the Pantheon (fab but covered in scaffolding on the outside and the gelato shop that everyone recommended to me has closed down) and then to the Trevi Fountain to throw my coin.
Igot back to the hostel at 4pm and hung around until everyone turned up too, but no one felt like going out so we did a supermarket run and then cooked dinner here which was basic but nice. Then we just sat and chatted away until at 11:30pm I desided it was time to go outside so me and a guy from the hostel called Ray who is from America went for a 'quick walk' which ended up taking two hours and involved hugging the Colosseum for quite a while. We got back at 1:30am and then settled down on the beanbags in the lounge and watched the Graduate online but we both fell asleep and woke up at 4am..
Then this morning I woke up at 7:30am which was dire, but never mind. I went to the Ara Pacis finally and bought a couple of books, and then walked past the Trevi Fountain to try and find the Capitoline Museum which I thought I had done but then after I had paid my EU12 then I realised that I was in an art gallery with an Van Gogh exhibition which would have been really exciting but I really hate art galleries... I was almost crying by the time I walked out of there because I wanted to get to the Capitoline so badly and then when I got into the square everything had been closed off because there was a huge riot over Berlusconi and people were setting police cars on fire. Not cool.
Eventually I found the Capitoline and spend about three hours just looking at stuff and I found the Bust of Commodus and it was SO exciting! Was being all stealth and taking sneaky photos for ages, but then it turned out that actually you're totally allowed cameras in there anyway so it was okay. I loved that place so much... Best. Museum. Ever.
Now, I'm back at the hostel and there are a couple of new people here and two of the guys who have been here since I got here are leaving tomorrow so we might go out for a big proper Italian meal which will be nice but also it's so tempting to just stay at the hostel and sleep... GAH.
Palazzo Massimo Alle Terme tomorrow, hopefully! Unless the bloody riots are still going... Apparently sometimes things like this last days and they might shut down the train station. Oh dear.
