We've made it to our second to last city - Berlin! We've just done a quick driving tour so that we could see the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag etc, and tomorrow we're off to do a Third Reich Walking Tour in the morning before we have the rest of the day to dither. Although I don't think much dithering will happen, because there's so much to see here! On our driving tour Amy and Brian let us out at a piece of the Berlin Wall called the East Side Gallery, which is where about 118 brilliant artists from around the world got invited to come and decorate a piece of the wall. That way they can keep it there and preserve history, but it won't look like crap! It was really cool actually, but so small! It's not even that tall and only about 10cm thick. I was surprised that it managed to stand for something like 27 years before people finally maganed to destroy it.
On the way to Berlin from Prague, we stopped in Dresden. It wasn't anything hugely special in coparison to laces that we've already been, but then Amy told us that 12 weeks beofre WWII ended the Allies bombed the guts out of the city and destroyed the whole thing! Somewhere between 25,000 and 40,000 people died in two days of insane bombing and so the coty actually rebuilt all these old buildings and made them look the same as they once did! So basically you think you're looking at yet another 17th century castle, but really it was built in the 60s or 70s! Madness.
I've just realised that I didn't actually make an entry for Prague! Well it was pretty quiet as things go - Lex and I didn't leave the hostel until lunch time and then we just wandered really. We walked across the Charles Bridge and up Saint Nicholas Bell Tower and then saw the Lennon Wall which was cool (we even wrote on it!) and then came back to the hostel for a burger-and-chip dinner and an 'early night', which ended up Lex, me, and another girl called Laura finding a bunch of American and Australian guys and sitting with them in the hostel bar until they closed at 2am and then skipping over the road to another bar until 3:30am. And then we had to get up at 6:30am to eat breakfast before we left on the bus! Not good. My cold has only got worse and I think flu is coming (sore eyes, headache, sore throat, swollen glands etc. BLAH.) but I'm in Europe and I am making the most of every moment.
Off to dinner in the hostel restaurant soon, and then an early night to try to shake off the sick in time for a busy day tomorrow!
