So, where was I last time? Berlin, I think. So we did the Third Reich tour and saw the Reichstag and the Berlin Wall and Checkpoint Charlie etc, then went shopping (to the Ritter Sport chocolate shop!), went to a cute Berlin exclusive store called Amplemann, and had kebabs for dinner and went to bed early. Woo! I loved Berlin though, it was so cool and historical and awesome and there was heaps to see. BUT we had to leave, and we arrived in Amsterdam yesterday after a whole day of driving.
Our night was fantastic - we went into Dam Square in the middle of town with Amy and the rest of the group, and then she let us off to go and get our own dinner. We grabbed a kebab and then went to a coffeeshop. No expaining required. The cake was really dry and weird. Then for the exciting part - the Red Light District! It was so cool! We wandered down all these alleyways and everywhere were red lit windows with women wearing some of the skimpiest bikinis I've ever seen, just standing there waiting to be hired by some poor sad bloke. A few curtains were closed (meaning that ther was a client in there) but most were open and so we got to see lots. Weirdly, it didn't feel dirty or wrong or pervy to be looking like I thought it would, because in Amsterdam it's just another part of the culture and of everyday life. So we thought that was funny, but then we went to a live sex show at the Amsterdam Moulin Rouge! This was the whole tour group, not just a few of us. Needless to say, I've seen it all now. There were four parts to the show that we saw - a striptease, a banana show, a vibrator show, and then live sex. I don't think that any of them require any further explaining. The ladies (a different one for each show) picked volunteers from the crowd to come up onstage, but thankfully I wasn't picked even though I had somehow managed to be put in the front row. After that, a few of us went wandering and met up with a few more, and ended up going to another coffeeshop and doing the traditional decriminalised Amsterdam thing that I won't mention the name of. We walked home in the pouring rain, but we didn't even notice. We just giggled our way back to the hostel and plopped into bed.
This morning we hopped up and went on a free bike tour of the city, which I think was the coolest thing we've done on the whole tour. It was just nice to get on a cute criuser bike and blend in with the locals, because EVERYONE cycles here. Plus, the exercise did us good. We walked up to the Anne Frank house after that which was pretty moving but also very intersting and really well done, and then just wandered around for a bit before going back to the hostel which is where i am now - sitting in the hostel bar on the computer, desperately needing to go to the loo. Tonight is the ast night of our Topdeck tour, and the entire group is going out for dinner and then on a canal cruise through Amsterdam's waterways. Tomorrow is London via Belgium and Calais in France, and then it's all over! I have five nights alone in London which I'm beyond excited about, and then back to Turin before flying to Dubai to FINALLY see Mum and Dad and Charlie! YAY!
So I will write again soon, and hopefully be able to add some photos (my computer is playing up and isn't letting me do it now, so you'll have to wait to see the beautiful Amsterdam and Berlin and London... Sorry)
Only 19 days until I'm home again!
