This blog needs to start with three words: ROAD TRIP BABBAH! We have scrapped the amtrak because we decided we are just too damn cool for that! ... We picked our car up and it is a beast!! It's huge and worth about €50,000 - no pressure Josie! With her driving and my map reading skills and supervision we will be just fine.. As I am going to be using my supervising skills in my interview and that's not a joke!
Day song is the god that is Bruno Mars... "Tonight were all right... Living out our dreams... All I wanna see is a sky full lighters" .. Nothing like a bit of Bruno to get us in the spirit!
Our drive didn't start off too successfully, not because of our skills but purely because the weather decided to change to torrential rain and storms.. We were sat in the car at walmart and a bolt of lightening decided to strike in front of our car... Scared!! However, it put me at ease as my mummy always used to say that a car is meant to be the safest place to stay... But then again, she is half Irish, so that could just be made up ;) just joking mommy!
We were entertained on the road by the cheesiest American radio stations ever.. Dafney was a legend.. One women rang up to request a song and was pretty much in tears claiming her love for her husband, " the song reminds me when we were in the barn, hot and sweaty, dancing" .. I mean come on love, keep that information to yourself!! Another was
Someone declaring their love for a guy after two weeks.. Yes, two weeks!!! Don't know what goes on in some peoples mind!
We drove into the night and saw some odd sightings.. A UFO we saw.. However, it turned out to be a light on a building! Panicked me for a moment though, and also saw a shooting star.. Awwww, was very sweet. I made a wish and for a change it didn't involved marrying Simon Cowell.. I know I'm as shocked as y'all!!
After a long 6ish hour drive, I tried to book a hotel for the night in Madison, Florida.. So thats what I did.. Until I put the address in maps and turns put I booked it for the wrong state, with that hotel being 20 hours drive away... Ooooopsie.. Rang back the women to cancel and she couldn't stop laughing at me.. Not impressed! So that was our decision made..
What better way to start a road trip by sleeping in your car? To be honest it was ten times comfier than my bed in Miami! Don't panic, it was a safe area to sleep in and was patrolled by security!
Bright and early in the morning we continued our trip to New Orleans.. One state, two state, three state, floor... Four states in one day.. Impressive. Florida, Mississippi, Alabama and of course our final stop Louisiana. What made us laugh was that as we drove into Alabama, the song "sweet home alabama" came on the radio.. This road trip is the best!!
Arrived safely in New Orleans to our hotel to be greeted by the hotel owner who was the cutest little black man ever! He made us feel right at home.. Knew that I was going to enjoy my stay in Nola (that's what they call New Orleans). After the mission of a drive, we just chilled out for the rest of the day in our hotel..
That evening, we headed down to the French Quarter to have an explore. Loads and loads of cute bars and jazz bands everywhere, on the street, in the bars! The atmosphere was buzzing.. We met some guys on a bachelor do and spent some of our evening with them.. We were both exhausted though so ended up leaving quite early, in order to feel fresh in the morning!
Early to bed, early to rise.. Up at a relatively decent time to FaceTime the absolute hilarious legend that is Jodie Saladino.. I don't think I could have had a funnier start to my morning than Jodie telling me her life story and her ringing into work to tell them that she needed to go home because she was drunk, and her boss replying "sorry jode, it's self inflicted, you shouldn't be drinking on the job" and her response to be "no, I'm not drinking - I'm drunk!!!" .. Seriously? Where did they find her!!
Midday, we took a stroll to Bourbon street to watch the NFL Texas V New Orleans American Football Game, which turned out to be one of the best day and nights of my life, definitely in the top 5 .. We watched it in a bar, (which we soon discovered was a gay bar.. Ooopsie) we had numerous cactus cooler shots with a group of gay guys.. These shots are given out free every time Nola score a touchdown, baring in mind its midday this was a sign where this day was heading! We had just about got the official rules of American football, although I'm going with that it's similar to
Rugby!
Secretly I was routing for the texans to win, but unfortunately Nola just took over.. So then I had to pretend to support Nola..! Daaaamn! Picture Wales on a match day and think ten times better atmosphere, it was incredible. The thing that makes it is that you can buy a drink in one bar, and just walk the streets into another bar with the same drink.. Business sense I'm not sure, but it works for me!!
Cocktails, Vodkas, a little snack of aligator bites (and this is food, not alcohol) and the lethal hand grenades were all drinks that followed in this messy day! we partied the day away.. Went into this club about 5pm and people were dancing like it was 3am.. Insane! If you can't beat 'em, join them! A guy called Patrick bought us a drink.. And bless him.. He was the ugliest soul on this planet.. He was not bless in the slightest. However, a lovely bloke! Ha!
We met some texans, New Yorkers (one of which offered me a job as his events assistant, damn, why didn't I take his number...) and of course some irish guys. They spotted our accent out and we then partied the night away with them.. And you can never not have a party when the Irish are involved! Classic night dancing to "here I go again on my owwwn.. Going down the only road I've ever knowwwwwn" ... Strolled home at 3.30am... So yes, that's 12pm- 3.30am drinking, almost 14 hours and we were both still standing.. You can tell I've definitely got Irish in me.. And we both have slight issues!!
Monday morning was a day of exploring the French Quarter and Bourbon Street in the day! I love it here.. It's so pretty and quaint in the day and absolutely crazy in the night.. My sort of place.
On the way we seen a local and his pet, his pet being a 12 ft python! Amazing!! We had a chat and held his snake, and no, not that snake.. His pet! Every one is so friendly an just will chat to anyone.. It puts London and even Wales to shame!
Being the random girls we are, we decided to go and have our palms read on the street by a gypsy, just to say we'd done it in Nola.. I have never been so nervous in my entire life.. Even after seeing three psychics.. She freaked me out. Well the reading is pretty much summed up like this:
- I'm going to have two more long relationships/marriages (I only want one :( ) and the first one is going to hurt me alot! So she said make sure the first husband is rich so I get some thing out of it.. It's like she's known me all my life!!
