Our day in Hermosillo started with a fantastic Mexican breakfast buffet and a clear sunny day.We got on the road by 9:00 and filled up with fuel for the trip. The day was long and hard as we travelled well over 900 km to Mazatlan. The day was interrupted with a couple of vehicle issues with the Sandy Lake fire truck.First it broke down on the side of the highway with a differential problem. This was fixed by Len with tape and a pocket knife (McGyver Len).At the same time we helped out some other travelers by providing them with a jack and wheel wrench from the ambulance to fix their flat tire.Pepe gave them a ride to the next town with the broken tire. Then the Fire Truck had an overheating problem as we were facing our first hot weather. Then the same truck had another flat tire in a large city that we were passing through. The majority of the crew parked in front of the Dodge dealership waiting for the repairs. It was also an opportunity for Harm and Tab to visit another fire station and meet some bomberos. Then we were on our way again. No time for lunch, just snacks from the Mexican version of 7-11.We pushed hard with no time for supper either- 7-11 again. We were then travelling in the dark.
We arrived in Mazatlan at about 12:30.The vetranos Bomberos were waiting to escort us into the city.We had a chance to have a short visit with them and show them the Jaws of Life. Then we drove the bus and the ambulance to the Los Flores Hotel. We had a chance for some quick refreshments after our arrival. Some went to bed……and some didn't.
Yesterday (Saturday) and today are days off from Rotary duties.Everybody is taking advantage of some down time to enjoy Mazatlan.Except Allan and Pepe who have travelled to Guadalarjha on more Rotary business.Tomorrow we will be attending Rotary meetings.
Adios- we will be back tomorrow.
