Hey all, how's everything goin?
At last minute I decided i'd go to Seattle for the weekend. I stayed at the Green Tortoise Hostel which was in the perfect location, right downtown across the street from the famous Pike Market. This is the craziest market, it's massive. There's guys throwing fish all round the place, old music stores, tacky gift stores, candy, meat, fruit & vegies & also the home of the first Starbucks store eva!!! yup Seattle is the birth place of Starbucks, Grunge music, Kurt Cobain of Nirvana & Jimi Hendrix. These are the things that make Seattle what it is.
Saturday when I went down it snowed like Crazy!!! It was just how I pictured an american winter to be & I was so excited that I got to experience it. Everyone was out on the streets with massive smiles.....mine probably the biggest cheesest face of all. They had xmas lights up, xmas trees, people on the street ringing bells & merry go rounds. As cliche as this sounds it was pretty magical.
You quite possibly couldn't go to Seattle without seeing the Space Needle, the first day I was wandering around Seattle hoping I could spot it in the sky & just head towards it. But because of the snow you couldn't really see any thing more than 15m in front of you. I did end up finding it, it was actually not as big as I thought it was but it was awesome finally getting to see it esp after always seeing it in the opening of Grey's Anatomy. lol. I also went to the Music Experience Project museum which is the weirdest looking building I've ever seen & sticks out like a sore thumb. Not much of a fan of museums but this one was quite interesting, they had all different types of music history, lots of famous Seattle musicans guitars & Drums. Theres this really cool interactive part of the museum where they teach you to play all different types of intruments.
I went for a hunt for the Fremont troll, I'd seen it in a couple of movies then found out it was actually in the district of Fremont under the Aurora bridge. It wasn't to hard to find & it's actually quite a spooky looking troll. It was huge, I only came up to its knuckles on his hand. He had a silver eye & a VW Beatle car under his hand. It's a pretty amazing piece of art & is perfectly situated under the bridge. If ever in Seattle it's definetly worth looking for :)
