I finally made it to the Great Canadian Rockies!!!! I did a 7 day Tour with the Travel Company Moose. We set off early on a Saturday morning and headed further up British Columbia. Our lunch stop was in a small town called Hope just pass Hell's Gate (No s*** that's what they're called & Hope really is just past Hell's Gate). Hope is quite a famous town around here it is where they filmed Rambo. We even went over the Rambo bridge. Next was onto Kamloops for a stop at the most Canadian place you could eat Tim Hortons (locals call it Timmy Ho Ho's) they're mostly known for their doughnuts. By the time dark had reach we arrived in Shuswap Lake. We stayed at a hostel above the local pub, the only pub in Shuswap Lake. We had dinner & a few beers with the locals while watching the Ice Hockey. The Hostel also had a pet Cat that was super cute & reminded me of the Cat we had when we were younger called Uncle Remus. I tried to sneak him into my suitcase to take with me but he didn't really like it in there. We were up early the next day as we had quite the drive to Banff. This day we were saying goodbye to Beautiful British Columbia & hello to Alberta. We crossed the Continental divide which is where the river flow switches direction. & put our clocks forward an hour. I was just taken back by the size of everything, just miles & miles of lush forest & huge snow covered mountains my photo's don't do any justice to the size of anything. We drove up over Rogers Pass which is part of the Trans-Canada Highway. Your so high up above the forests & level with all the mountain tops, it had started to snow at this point of the trip which as cheesy as it sounds took my breath away. When we arrived in Banff we stayed at the flashiest hostel & there was an Elk family right outside our building & we had to walk within a metre of them to get into the hostel. They're so cute but way bigger than I had expected. The drive from Banff to Jasper is the most spectacular drive you could do, so much beauty! First stop was the most photographed lake in the world Lake Louise. We were so lucky this morning as the sun had come out & this is when the Lake is most magnificent when the sunlight changes the Lake to different shades of Blue & Green. I will apologise as I did possibly take way to many pictures of the Lake. I got a little carried away, I just stood there looking at it & being like WOW. We carried on & stopped off at Mistaya Canyon that has the craziest looking limestone erosion. Then onto the Rockies deepest Canyon Maligne Canyon. We then drove onto Columbia Icefield which is the largest icefield south of the Arctic Circle. By the time we got here it had turned into a bit of a snow storm. We decided that we would brave the -8 & walk up to the Athabasca Glacier. It was amazing to see the actual effects of global warming, of where the Glacier use be (it's quite scary actually). We got to Jasper & made a group meal in our hostel & all just sat around talking & drinking most the night. Driving back to Banff taking a different route but just as amazing as the day before. We stopped at Athabasca Falls, were parts of it had started to freeze over, was kinda weird to look at. Our next stop was Peyto Lake another one of my favourites that I'd been so excited to get to see. We hiked through the snow to a look out point & checked out the lake. It was still an amazing blue but since it was snowing that day it wasn't as gorgeous coloured as it could have been. Our group ended up having a massive snowball fight haha guess who started it?!?!. When we got to Banff we had sometime to check out the cute mountain resort town, everything is pretty expensive here. We then went out to dinner & then decided that we would go & experience the awesome Banff nightlife that everyone kept telling us about. Revelstoke was our next over night stop off. Because it was the in-between season there really wasn't much to do here. We just wondered around the town, went to the pub, played on the towns Bear statues which resulted in us getting dirty looks from the locals, there was a baby Bear statue does that not just say ride me for a funny photo on it?!?! I climbed underneath the big Bear as well & ended up getting a bit stuck & a couple people from my tour bus had to pull me out by my feet haha oops. We also visited Johnston Canyon, it was really beautiful. When we got there it was fresh snowfall & we got to be the first to walk the tracks through it, I love it! We had the biggest snow fight we had had all week. The snow fight went on for the whole hike & I created the biggest snowball ever (see picture) I think I have now mastered the perfect snowball & build them just as good as a real Canadian! Leaving Revelstoke & now onto Kelowna. Kelowna's landscapes actually reminded me of home. It was kind of similar just the rolling hills & the colour of them seemed familiar. We went to Summerhill organic winery & tried a couple of Okanagan Valley's finest wines. We had lunch at Kalamalka Lake which was rated one of the top 10 lakes of the world by the National Geographic. Drove over a floating bridge, they were suppose to build a normal bridge but when they tried to measure down how far the lake went they couldn't find the bottom so ended up making a floating bridge. There is also a legend of Ogopogo (Nessie sister) that lives in this Lake. The hostel in Kelowna was really nice & we all hung out this night & drunk & played pool. Was an awesome night to end the tour on. Next day we headed back to Vancouver. We stopped off in Abbotsford first for a round of mini golf where I absolutely whipped everyone's asses!
