When asked what I thought about Toronto I responded with ask me again in a couple days. On my second day I went to Toronto Islands to escape the city. Maybe this says more about me than the actual place. Toronto Island was nice, I wouldn't go as far as saying gorgeous but it was one of my favourite things. It has the beaches, miles of grass to lay around on, fantastic views of the famous Toronto skyline and Lake Ontario (it's so huge I thought it was the ocean). I hired an old school vintage bike (I think I will trade my mountain bike in for one of these) & rode around for a few hours. The Island is actually quite huge. Made up of a few Islands close together that have been joint by bridges. I came across a cute lil shack on Wards Island where I bought my lunch. I then proceeded onto Algonquin Island. My god it had the cutest houses I've ever seen. They're just like little holiday batches but so cute & are in amongst the forest with brick tiled roads that are only a couple metres wide. I then rode all the way over to the other side of the Island to Hanlans Point & lay around the rest of the afternoon & got burnt. (turned into a tan by the end of the week! J ) The mall is absolutely massive, I thought the one in San Fran was big but not compared to this one. I wondered around looking through the shops. I visited the Hockey Hall of Fame, saw some Jerseys, Skates, Pads & Helmets. Oh & the Stanley Cup!!! I think Stanley Cup should have been at the front of the list as the most important thing to see. As you can tell the Canadian's haven't fully converted me into a crazed hockey lover. Although I was keeping the fact that I support the Vancouver Canucks on the down low coz if not I may have been beaten with a stick from a Toronto Maple Leafs fan! I went up the CN Tower...which is a must do in Toronto. It use to be the tallest free standing builing in the world. Its kinda creepy going up in the elevator coz they have glass parts on the floor so you can see below you & how high up you are. They also have a glass floor which made me feel a bit ill haha it creeked ok?!?! the size of Toronto just blew me away. I kept looking for views of mountains but all there was were buildings going for ever. At the top looking out there was a nice thick layer of smog over the city...nice! lol. One of my biggest highlights was going to see the Blue Jays vs the NY Yankees. Kelly & I were sitting so close to the field that we were afraid we'd get hit by the ball. There were a few balls that came into the crowd with a lot of force behind them. The Blue Jays won woop woop! Baseball fans are pretty crazy, there were all sorts of stuff being shouted at the players….good & nasty stuff! On the Saturday I went out to Mississauga where Kelly lives. Her & Courtney took me to a Mansion party. Girls had to wear all white & the guys had to wear all black. This Mansion was soooo huge & fancy. It was awesome, they had open bar (free alcohol is dangerous) & free fancy food platters. There were a bunch of paparazzi that were constantly taking your picture, even when your waiting in the toilet line haha. Was definitely weird. I have to say I saw a whole new level of skank at that party but was a real eye opener to a different way of life. On the Sunday I went out to Brampton & hung out at Courtney's house. She has the cutest puppy, I wanted to steal it. It was just a big fluff ball hehe soooo cute! Was awesome to catch up with Courtney & Kelly again since it had been a year & a half since I last saw them. (forgot to mention that Courtney & Kelly are the friends I made when I first moved to Vancouver. I shared a hostel room with them for 2 weeks). I did what everyone else does and compared Toronto to Vancouver. I am obviously bias when it comes to Vancouver since I've been living there the past 16 months compared to 7 days in Toronto but I have to say that the West Coast bet out the East Coast by far in my books. Give me the small city trying to be the big city any day. I'll take the Vancouver 4 Seasons in one day over the humid smog ridden Toronto, I'll take the Vancouver crazy homeless over the Toronto crazy homeless, I'll take the cheeky Vancouver squirrels over the suicidal wired out on crack Toronto squirrels. Don't get me wrong there are great things about Toronto, I had fun, saw what I wanted to see, opened my eyes a lot. It's just not a place for me. I'll end by saying one thing………Vancouver represent!!!!!
