I got burnt by the Californian sun! well it seemed like a good idea, no I won't get burnt that bad? 6 days later.....ouchy.
Leanne & I on our first day walked down to Fishermans Wharf to check it out, it is a very touristy spot but no wonder. This became one of our favourite spots to hang out or go back to once we were done with everything else. They have awesome shops & Restaurants & great Ice Cream lol. We walked or more like hiked up to Coit Tower, it felt like a million steps till the top & the heat didn't really help. Also once getting to the top & feeling quite proud of ourselves for walking up all those stairs to get to it, a dam bus drives straight past us....we were like oh we could have got a bus ggrrrr. Anyway after checking out the views from the top of the tower we thought Lombard Street (Crookedst Street in the world) wasn't that far just two blocks over then down the hill, along a straight then up a hill then another hill......yeah it seemed close but not really but we walked it anyway. After getting to the top of Lombard we got a cable car!!! this was one of my favourite things hehe they're so much fun :) hanging out the side with the the city flying past, & maybe slightly dangerous as you really do need to hold on tight especially when going down those steep hills.
Yes the famous steep hills, they are that steep & it wasn't always enjoyable walking up them either. Even after 6 days in San Fran you still didn't really get that use to them. They trick you too, you look up & you see the top of the hill then just blue sky so it makes you wonder whats on the other side? so you walk up it.....nope just more hills. We made our way to the Painted Ladies also known as postcard row or Alamo square, you know those houses that featured at the opening of that tv show Fullhouse!! they're the cutest houses I wanted to steal it & put it in my pocket. We checked out Haight & Ashbury Streets which we weren't to impressed with, it's basically an old hippie part of town. That night we caught a Ferrie to Alcatraz, it's not as scary as you think it would be. Unless you got stuck there on your own after everyone else left. It was definetly interesting to see & you listen to an individual walkman that guides you around & tells you all the history of the Island & all the famous inmates that once were held there.
The highlight of my trip was riding the bikes around the bay, across the Golden Gate Bridge then round to Sausalito, it was tiring but a well worth it ride :) Sausalito is this little fishermans/artists town just over the bridge....it's gorgeous! we had lunch at a restaurant on the waterfront & then relaxed in a park while watching people play some strange game. Instead of riding back we got a ferrie back to San Francisco. We would have rode but the massive hill we rode down to get to Sausalito put us off. There was no way I was trying to ride up that.
Wooooooo Napa Valley..........the Valley of California wines. We had to get up so early on Sunday for this but our tour guide was really good, very entertaining. Leanne & I thought we would sort of take the piss out of wine tasting & how posh it was so the day before we went shopping so we could wear it on the wine tour. Leanne wore a black dress & I wore a (you may want to sit down for this one) white skirt, a cardi, my jandals & a big straw hat lol. It was funny as, check out the pics. The first Vineyard we arrived at was gorgeous, the house was stunning! vines all up the walls, awesome courtyard & of course the wines. We bought Cheese, Bread & Brushetta spread for lunch & sat out on the picnic tables. It was amazing how hot it was, San Francisco was hot but the sea breeze in some areas made it chilly at times. But in Napa it was just hot, muggy, sticky air that made it slighty uncomfortable. We visited & tasted wines at 4 different wineries over the day. We then drove up to Vallejo & got a ferrie back across to San Francisco. It was an expensive day but defintley an experience.
Now i'm back in cloudy Vancouver with really bad sun burn. Was weird returning to Vancouver as it felt like I should have been coming home, I got a bit homesick.
