As I gangsta leaned the streets of Cusco yesterday, I realised I hadn´t written a blog entry in a while, so here goes, b****es and hoes. We flew into Lima from Bogota with b***** all sleep and felt a bit ropey. As soon as we arrived we got an 18 hour bus to Mancora, a beach resort on the north coast. It was hotter than the sun here, and being typical british (well and german) tourists we burtn straight away. Also, we underestimated the nature of the happy hour at our hostel and got smashed without realising how strong the drinks were. Anyhoo, the next few days were spent nursing our lobster sunburn and hangovers, also I may add, our tummies were not at their best here. Could´ve been the food and drink but either way we struggled. Haz went motorbiking up and down the local dust roads with a kiwi we met, but I chickened out on account of not knowing how to ride a motorbike.
We headed to Lima after a few days for our flight to Cusco. There we visited the famous Plaza des Armas which is quite nice, had some killer chocolate gateaux, which I have to say rivalled that of the germans, good times! We met some girls who we had some beers with in Lima before our early flight the next day. The views of the andes from the flight were incredible, and the decent is so quick and low you could almost see the woodpeckers yawning in the trees! I left my ipod on the plane but got it back luckily.
As soon as we arrived in Cusco we felt the effect of the altitude, 3400m crazy I tell ya. I felt light headed and my heart was racing. They say it always takes a day or two to adjust. Anyway chilled for a couple of days before our epic 4 day trek to Machu Picchu. This was incredible and probably the hardest thing I´ve ever done!. Day 1 was mountain biking down the mountains with spectacular views. Haz had a bike with the brakes on the wrong sides so when he hit a spot of bother he accidentally hit the front brake and toppled over arse over tit! He was fine though.
Day 2 was the trek from hell, 8 hours of walking along the narrowist pathways with 500m drops and uphill walking that nearly killed me. We also walked through the jungle and felt like we were in the film `honey we shrank the kids`all the plants were huge! Day 3 we did more walking for 6 hours along traintracks and what not.
Day 4 was epic. We awoke at 3am to trek to Machu Picchu early enough to get up the mountain cos its limited to 400 people a day. The hour long walk up thousdands of stairs in pitch black proved treacherous. We got up there at 5am and got in at 6am. At 10 we headed up yet again another few thousand stairs to the mountain Waynapicchu with incredible views again!. We spent most of the day here before heading back to Cusco. What a 4 days, I walked more in 4 days than I have in the last 4 years. Good time, over and out.
