Downtown Daegu holds an annual street festival but this year it was expanded to a more ambitious project of shutting down the traffic street and holding a massive parade. A unique atmosphere was created turning this traffic zone into a cultural space for the weekend where people could leisurely stroll and engage in various cultural activities. The north half of Donseongno was a street bazaar a variety of food vendors and stalls. Items ranged from Uzbekistan Kebabs, Turkish Ice Cream, and traditional Korean foods. The main street from Daegu Station to Jungangno had been shut to traffic and became the venue for a chalk festival. The road which is heavily travelled by buses coming into downtown was closed to traffic and pedestrianized. People used this space to ride bicycles, skateboards, or stroll with their small children. A unique art space had been created on the street and people were encouraged to write and draw their own messages and pictures on the road surface. Many children and families worked together on their pieces of art. They had spent a great deal of time colouring in some pictures and some were very detailed pieces of art. South of Jungangno to Banwoldang the traffic street was closed again for a free outdoor cultural zone. There were street musicians, singers, an orchestra, and opera performance. There were also visual performers and childrens entertainers. The main climax was due to be the evenings parade. Many were anxiously lining the street awaiting its arrival (see next entry)
