After the elaborate opening events with a fly by air show the main three hour evenings events took place. There were track and field events in all disciplines including high jump, long jump, shot put, javelin, hammer throw, 1500m, 400m, 100m, hurdles, and relay. Many of the athletes from the recent August games had returned allowing for a brief evening to relive the recent games. Sitting by the finish line which I wasnt able to during the IAAF games you could see more organizational activity. First they would lay out the starting blocks and collect the athletes garments in baskets. As soon as the firing pistols fired the volunteers would rush back onto the field to clear all the equipment. Also I was able to see the camera crews this time with Sarbi interviewing athletes after the races. The last two track events were the hurdles and 100m. I also had a clear view of the hurdles and 100m races by the finish line. Australia looked like they were in the lead but Japan made a sudden surge in the final turn leading to victory. For a brief evening it was an exciting opportunity to experience another live sporting event.
