Today I woke up at around 10 am and still felt exhausted even mid shower! One of those days! The last day in a place seems to be like that, pretty tiring! I got ready and sat outside and had a breakfast which consisted of tomato and crackers and a little bit of sweet bread. Delicious! Today wasn't going to be a massive day of activities seen as the last two days have been pretty strenuous, so we decided we would take a walk along the markets and see what kinds of crap they are selling. We got bus number three and found the underground shopping mall. 'Hong kong mall' . I liked this market more, especially compared to the silk market in Beijing; no one screaming at you to buy crap! I finally found a stall that sold nose studs as I lost mine in shanghai, and I always feel lost without it! 2 for 50p. Bargain. Mel wanted to find some cheap dresses to take home, but even the cream of the shankhill would have turned these sequin numbers down. Woeful is an understatement!
We left the mall as soon as we spotted high heels made to look like cats, enough was enough! I picked up a chicken burger and Mel had some sushi. We dandered into a few department stores but everything was the same price as back home, therefore not for us! We headed back to wada hostel and picked up ice smoothies on the way! Hot again!
Mel went for a lie down and I got talking to Conor who we met last night. He seems a bit mental if you ask me. He's travelling to take a break from his boyfriend back in London, but he keeps telling weird fibs. For example, last night he told me in detail about his time at the night market and how he loved it, then today he said 'so what is at the night market then? I heard it's a bit crap' . WHAT?! Made me laugh nonetheless. After I escaped crazy Conor I went to lie down, I was absolutely busted this day! I was careful not to fall asleep though as that would ruin the sleep before the boat trip.
A couple of hours passed and it was night market time. We got ready and called for Katie (Aussie gal). She asked if she could bring along Angela and we said of course. Angela is an Indian lawyer who has been living in Dubai for the last 15 years, she seemed cool! We got on bus 10 for 5 stops and got off at the night market. The place was buzzing and had hundreds of stalls filled with loads of random stuff. Personal favourites include a rubber chicken that made a Cow noise and an ashtray with a tarantula inside it. Katie and I shared some noodles from a stall and Angela said the smell of the place was making her feel sick. Now I am pretty bad with Chinese smells/ food/ general culture but she took the biscuit! She just kept staring at us all eating our food then announced halfway through that she was leaving and going back to the hostel. Bizarre.
In amongst the hordes of crap I found an awesome stall. This guy has made pop up cards out of origami that when opened, transform into lovely flowers and buildings. I thought it would be a lovely gift for gran and grandad so I picked them one up and got charged a rip off westerners price! I didn't even try to bargain because its a lovely card and I know how much granny and grandad will love it. After card gate I spotted a massive lit up picture on the wall of jonny depp as captain jack sparrow. Katie said 'I wish he was a bit lower to the ground so I can lick his ear'. Haha. She is brilliant craic. We also found out she's staying in the cosy garden hostel In a few days at the same time as us so we promised to hang out again. It then got to 9pm so we headed back to the bus (minus Angela) and then stopped off at the shop. I grabbed a big bottle of water and some crackers for the boat ride down the li river tomorrow. Bed time at 10.30! Nice!
