Saturday was full of arrivals and missed connections. 9 out of 12 of our guests arrived on time or very close to one time. My girlfriend Maria who was coming in from Argentina got stuck in Colombia and was delayed by 24 hours. Eric's parents missed their connection in San Juan and had to spend the night there. They all arrived on the same flight at 9:20am on Sunday, so not too much time was lost.
After everyone got settled in, we headed towards the beach for our welcome party. We stopped at Cane Bay Dreams on our way. This is the house that Keith, Kevin, Scott, Missy, Ed and Moses rented. It is such a beautiful, modern home right on the water. We had a happy hour cocktail and the 14 of us trekked 1/2 mile down the road to Calvin's.
Our welcome party could not have been more perfect. We arrived at our favorite little bar and grill on Cane Bay Beach. There was no one else there so we took over the bar. Calvin and bartender Tiffiny took great care of us. We ate, we drank, we laughed, we had a blast. Some of us haven't seen each other in a while and some people were meeting for the first time.
Originally we were going to go to the Domino Club and West End on Sunday but we decided to delay that trip until Monday. We heard that the beaches get a little crazy on Sundays so we decided to stay local. Keith's house wanted to go to the grocery store and we had to make an airport run to pick up our wayward travelers. Mom, Dad and Maria arrived on the 9:20 flight. We grabbed them and went to the beach for a few hours.
The rumors proved to be true. In the 20 years we have been visiting St Croix, I have never seen so many people at Cane Bay. It was a mad house. At around 3pm there were so many people, dogs and loud, competing music that we gave up and went back up the hill to our peaceful little house. We relaxed, played good music at a reasonable volume, enjoyed happy hour and dips in the pool.
The Cane Bay Dreams Clan showed up around 6pm. We all grilled and enjoyed the sunset. Just after dark Scott broke out his guitar and Keith picked up his drum and we fashioned a couple of shakes out of water bottles, rice and salt. It was like having a private concert on our patio over looking the ocean. The accoustics in our open air living room are amazing. We sang. We danced. A good time was had by all.
It was a great way to celebrate Father's day with Eric's Dad. It was also Scott and Missy's 12th anniversary yesterday. We have a lot to celebrate this week and we are off to a good start.
