We had another easy and on-time travel day on Thursday. Everywhere we went in San Juan the traffic was tremendous so we left nice and early for the airport. There was no traffic so we were heaps early for our flight. We had a snack, walked the airport duty free shop and talked to people at our gate.
The flight over was super easy. It's only 75 miles and takes about 35 minutes. Turbulence can get a little rough in the afternoon in the caribbean but it was relatively calm. Even Ray was ok with our small plane and he's not a big fan of flying. The quote of the day came from a four year old sitting near us. After we landed, he turned to his mom and loudly said "Mom that was fun, but next time can we go on a real plane?" Cracked us all up.
St Croix is awesome. We disembarked and headed to baggage claim where they have free rum tastings while you wait. It's the one place on Earth where you wish it took longer for your bags to arrive. The baggage handlers pull it off the plane and walk 30 feet and place it inside the door so it happens really fast. We picked up our car and got re-aquainted to the left side of the road and off we went.
It took us a little bit of extra exploring to find our house that we rented. All part of the adventure. We figured it out after only a few wrong turns and a couple of fierce looking dogs. When we arrived at Larimar Estate, Mark the caretaker greeted us in the driveway. We got the tour and we were in love the place immediately.
We did not have time to stock up so we unpacked and had a quick swim in the pool and headed to Spratnet Beach Bar (also known as Calvin's) for dinner. Calvin was at the bar and remembered us after a little reminiscing. We talked about old times and people we knew and where they are now. Our old buddy Steve was cooking and made us all delicious fish tacos for dinner.
Friday was errand day. We had to stock the house with food and booze and other necesseties for the week long party we are hosting. Our first stop was Kmart and then off to Cost U Less, which is like a Sam's club but no membership required. It was exactly the same as 10 years ago. Everthing was even still in the same place in the store. We bought 4 carts of groceries and booze. It was a bit overwhelming. We had to keep reminding ourselves that we are feeding between 10 & 20 people at each meal.
Like Sam's Club, you can't get everything you need at Cost U Less so we still needed to stop at Pueblo for some supplies. We were hot and hungry and the van was full full full. We opted to go to the house unload, eat and head back out. Ray decided he had enough and stayed back on the second outing. I'm not gonna lie, I was a little jealous. Pueblo was fast and we were all happy to be done shopping.
We lounged by the pool, listened to music and watched the sunset from our amazing deck/outdoor living space. We enjoyed the peace and quiet before the madness. We have 11 more people arriving today and 6 more throughout the week. It's going to be a good time.
Let the party begin!!
