decided that we would all go to Zebeedee Springs today. Hot cross buns for breaky for the Davey's.
Left the camp site at 7.30 as the springs are only open to the poor people until 1200. About a 15 km drive back along the track, through the Pentecost River and the creek crossings to the springs.
When we got to the springs car park, Tanya told us that a car had deliberately swerved on the road to run over a snake that had been crossing the road. The car had to swerve over to the far right of the road to hit the snake. You would be surprised as to who owned the car????
Easy walk into the springs through a mini rainforest area. The springs were just fantastic with some of them very warm.
The Davey's decided after a while to move down to a bigger rock pool and as they were getting there, Sharon did a big face plant off the top of a rock into the pool, missing a large rock by millimetres with her head. Lucky the pool was about a metre deep otherwise she would have been badly hurt, but she badly bruised her leg.
Got back to the campsite at about 10 and Terry and Tanya noticed that there car played up as soon as they crossed the Pentecost River. The air conditioner had stopped putting out cold air, and his car was overheating. Terry and Neil got out the tools and pulled some panels off under the car to have a look and found that Terry had a lot of damage to his radiator from the fan blade. The water must have pulled the blade into the radiator. Neil had videoed the crossing as they were following Terry and Terry was certainly not going fast when it happened and the water was not that deep. Terry and Tanya had blown a radiator on their last trip north as well, so as you can imagine, they were not very happy.
Set the wheels in motion and Terry and Tanya promptly arranged to get a new radiator flown into Kununurra from Darwin with the resident El Questro mechanic agreeing to fit it for them. Only hiccup with this is we were now at El Questro for another 2 nights – not a bad place to be stuck though.
Davey 4 went on a drive to Saddleback Ridge which was a great 4 wheel drive track and a magical view. Went down to Champagne Gorge and looked at all the devastation of from the floods – 150 year old boab trees knocked over and the famous El Questro Homestead not looking too flash either. A Boab tree had taken out the verandha. Apparently over $750,000 worth of damage.
Had another nice dinner, few drinks and a beautiful clear night again.
