Today we wanted to have another go at fishing but at a different location. A sand dune was suggested near the swimmers beach which was apparently an ideal snorkelling spot as well. Got to the beach around 11 am and threw the lines in. Plenty of fish swimming around but they were not biting. Tanya, Sharon, Melanie and Joanna had a swim (away from the fishermen Neil and Terry) and whilst swimming they were spotting fish all around. Melanie went and got the snorkelling gear and all the girls practised snorkelling for a while. Ideal conditions again, sunny, clear blue water etc. Another try at fishing was on the agenda for Tanya but unfortunately she didn't catch anything. As the tide was going back out we saw so many fish jumping out of the water and whilst watching them near a small part of the reef where Neil was standing, all of a sudden there was a 3 metre shark probably no more than 3 metres from the shore. Shark was yelled and Tanya and Sharon have never seen Neil move so quickly before. We spent the next ½ hour trying to watch where it went. After all that excitement we had to pack up the gear and head back to camp as Ann (Sharon’s mum) was arriving from Broome at around 4.30 pm. Cleaned up and headed up to reception to wait for Ann.
Ann arrived safely; both Melanie and Joanna very excited to see their Nana. Walked back to camp and showed Ann her bed for the next 10 days. We were lucky enough that the campers across from us had spent the day out fishing which was very successful so they shared their catch with us as well. We feasted on Queenie which is not so popular with WA people but we all thought it was really nice. All sat around telling Ann a lot of the stories so far, then went to bed.
