Australia
Feb 16, 2006
I love Australia! Sorry I haven't been writing in a while. I am still getting my internet worked out. Amazing pictures will be posted soon. Over the past couple of days I've had a wonderful time. The Melbourne Welcome program which introduced us to the University and sights around Melbourne was fun. I stayed at Ormond College. It is the largest residential college at the university and it was beautiful. I had a room all to my self on a floor with a bunch of people in my orientation group. The first day was mainly introductions. We had a nice BBQ lunch outside (I still can't get over how nice the weather has been - sunny and around 80F every day!) The next day we visited the Healesville Sanctuary. It was a park full of Australian animals. I have some great pictures of kangaroos and koalas. Did you know that kangaroos can't hop backwards? I was most surprised by how small platypuses are. The largest ones are no bigger than a cat! The next day we went surfing at Ocean Grove. It was unbelievable. The beaches were absolutely gorgeous and the surfing was super fun. I was able to stand on my board for almost two seconds. I can't wait to try it again. On the last day we had tours of the city followed by a formal dinner. It felt just like Harry Potter! The tables were really fancy- The waiters even put our napkins on our lap. Now is the start of our orientation. So far I have attended an international student briefing and a meeting with my faculty (department) to discuss enrollment. Now we are going through academic requirements and next week we will get to learn more about all the clubs and activities that they have hear. I have already heard about some of the field trips they do and really hope I get to go swimming with dolphins- we'll see!
