My first night in Oakhurst was horrific. I was up and down either coughing or weeing all night. Ended up reading my kindle til about 4.30am. Why is it that everything seems so much worse during the night? I was freezing, then sweating, then I felt sick, and all in the pitch black. It was really s***. Which is exactly what I felt like buy the time it got light. Nick woke up with one thing on his mind. Breakfast. I felt like crying but how can I not let him have his breakfast? He loves it so much. I got dressed, looking equally vile as the night before, and shuffled off to breakfast. I picked caramel apple French toast from the brunch menu. When I ordered the bloke tells me they aren't serving from the brunch menu. Why the hell give it to me then?? I could have plain French toast or apple crepes but not apple French toast. WTF? Who made that rule? I was tempted to order the French toast and the apple part of the crepes but I think my sarcasm would have been lost. They really are 2 sandwiches short of a picnic here. Or should I say 2 slices of French toast short of a brunch.
To make sure the maid had time to do our room with us out of the way, we went to the shops after breakfast. The stuff in their supermarkets seems so much nicer than ours. Loads of fresh stuff. Soups, salads, fruit and veg. It all looks lovely. Unsure if we'd go out for dinner I bought a tub of baked potato soup. I ended up eating it for lunch, it looked so nice. It was like liquid jacket spud. We had a microwave in our room so I pinged it and away I went. We bought loads of crappy supplies to keep ourselves going, went to Starbucks and then went home. Where I got straight back in bed. We watched tele, read and had a nap. It was all I could muster. It must have been so boring for Nick.
We went to Taco bell in the evening. I started to feel a bit better and wanted some fresh air. As soon as we got there I instantly regretted it. Not because I felt ill, but because it was like Redneck central! It was horrible. A right load of inbreds. Nick ordered 2 box meals and the look on the blokes' face was priceless. He had the most vacant expression. He had absolutely no idea what Nick was talking about. As a result we ended up with the wrong order and Nick ended up with the hump. My sleep was less disturbed than the night before but still a long way from perfect. I've just been so cold. The sort of cold that gets right into your bones until it makes you shiver.
We had a slow start Tuesday morning. Partly because we didn't have anywhere to rush to and partly because I can only go slow. Every 5 mins I need to sit down to catch my breath and stop sweating. I still felt poxy by the time we got to Mariposa for breakfast. Bless Nick, I love him dearly but there is no worse a person to have around when you feel sick. He ordered a pastrami burger and tater tots. Just thinking about it makes me feel sick. It was huge and full of meat. I tried to avoid looking at IT, and Nick. He gets so enthusiastic though, he gets smothered in it so there's no way of not seeing it. I don't normally take a blind bit of notice but after feeling sick for so long it's hard not to notice. I managed some brown toast and a cup of tea. Gone right off coffee.
