Lets take this gig global!!
Hey folks.
Another update already! Just wanted to let you know what I've been upto during my last few days in Brissie, or BrisVegas as the locals call it.
After my busy day on saturday I headed to the bar for a few much needed ales and bumped into a girl who was in my room back in Surfers Paradise called Sophie. We got chatting and decided to go to North Stradbroke Island on sunday, And what a decision that was!!
It was another glorious day and an early start as we had to catch the train out to Cleveland and get the ferry over. Took a couple of hours in the end but boy was it worth it. The island is basically one big nature reserve and had some of the best beaches I've seen on my travels so far!
We headed to Point Lookout first and took in the spectacular views of the torquise ocean and miles and miles of white picture perfect sandy beaches. You can walk the whole stretch of the coast either in the forests just inland or on the beaches themselves so we just cruised the sands for a couple of Km's until we hit what we thought was the nicest and settled down for a spot of lunch on Cylinder beach! Caught a few UVs and took a dip in the crystal clear water.
It really was unbelievably beautiful and just crazy to think that it was just a couple of hours from the city. It was more like a tropical island!! So much so that apparently the city goers often go there for their holidays instead of going further afield and I can see why!
It summed up my vision of Australia in a nut shell. Immense!!
I loved it so much that if I wasnt booked onto our kayak trip tomorrow I would have left the city the next day and stayed there for the rest of the week. If anyones in Brisbane and the weather is good (which is prety damn likely) then you really should try and get out there!
Pretty tired after all the walking and swimming I had an early one that night. Yesterday I popped into town and finally got the ol' barnet chopped! The cheapest place I could find was the Brisbane school of Hairdressing and was a little ominous at first after having to sign a disclaimer form covering them for any mistakes and more worringly......injuries!! But it was fine in the end and a really nice English lass did a grand job. A cut and shampoo and even head massage for $15 was pretty good I thought!
In the arvo I went to do the Castlemaine XXXX brewery tour (as it was free with a deal in the hostel) which was quality. I just thought it would be a walk around all the different areas but it started off really hi-tech with videos, magic revolving doors and loads of other funky stuff, proper Willy Wonka stylee!! But the best part was the 4 free beers at the end, so settled down with a northern couple and another lad and was a wee bit merry by the time I left at 4pm!! Like most afternoon seshes I went back to the hostel and passed out for an hour or so!!
I've been having pretty early nights of late so decided to hit the bar and take advantage of 'Power Hour' with the boys from my room. Ended up in a place called Down Under and a heavy but good night was had by all!!
Anyways, I have actually left Brisbane today and am now in Noosa heads. I am booked on to do a 3 day kayak trip into the everglades with a couple of sweedish lads I met back in Byron and an Irish lass we met in Surfers so hopefully if the weathers good and we dont get munched by crocs, it should be umm....fun!!!
So yeah, you may not hear from me for a few days but if its any longer you better give Steve Irwin a call to come and hunt us down!!
Hope all is good whereever you are,
Laters potatas
Dan
