Lets take this gig global!!
Bula to y'all
well, for the first time on my trip I am actually behind on my updates! Not from laziness on my part (I promise!) but because I have just spent the past 10 days living like Robinson Crusoe on remote, deserted islands!!
I have just had two of the best weeks of my trip in Fiji, it really was amazing!
It didnt start the best after some really rude service at the hotel I stayed at on my first night and also the reality of how expensive it was going to be to spend two weeks there. So much so that I had to make the drastic decision to change my flights (yet again!) so that I spent 10 days there instead of the original 2 weeks. Once that was sorted I got on the case of which islands to visit in my brief time there. Easier said than done I can tell ya! There are 20 or so habited islands in the Yasawa group and loads of resorts to stay at so the decision was not easy.
On the plus side I met a cool girl, Katherine, who was in the exactly the same boat so we rallied together and tried to make the best of the info we had. The next day we were leaving the main land and heading off for a week in the sun-soaked islands.
To cut a long story short we ended up going to 6 different resorts on 5 different islands in 7 days which worked out brilliantly. I could go into details about each one but there is far too much to say so i wont bore you. They included the islands of Waya, Naviti, Nanula-Lailai, Taviti and Nacula in the far north. Every place just got better and better and it was an immense week. I liked it all so much that I actually extended by a day and spent an extra night on the smallest island in the Mamanucas - South Sea island which you could walk around in just 7 minutes! Crazy!
The weather couldnt have been any better or hotter so the tan was topped up sufficiently and most days were spent chilling on some of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen (and are likely to see!). Complete postcard perfect -white sand, palm trees and the most transparent water you can imagine. It was too hot to do much else in the day except relax and snorkel the amazing reefs before some intense volleyball and a quiet beer before the sun went down!
The other bonus was the people. The Fijians really are a compliment to themselves and their banter and hospitality couldnt be faulted. Along with that I met some of the soundest people so far at every resort I went too. To be fair, I really couldnt say a bad word about my time in Fiji, it was amazing! Oh, and the other highlight was that I got to go swimming with Manta rays! I saw and swam with three in total, the biggest being around 2 + metres wide! By far one of the best experiences of the trip and my life. Quality!!
Anyways, there is plenty more I could say about Fiji but I will leave it at that. i think the pictures will speak for themselves when I manage to get them up and running.
Keep an eye out,
hope all is dandy back in drizzly Britain ;-)
Laters. Dan
