Lets take this gig global!!
...well that was lucky! I sensed the bloody thing was gonn acrash so saved that one quickly!
Anyways, we had to wait at the train station for about an hour as we were early and had a lot of trouble off beggers esp the little kids! Also got the usual stares off th locals but the one bizare thing was that we saw a pair of Indian transexuals!! I know, crazy! Did nt expect that in India! At least it took the stares off us for a few minutes tho.
The train left on time (11.40 am)and as we've experienced before we had lots of room in our sleeper carriage. It was really hot tho and pretty hard to nod off so spent most of the journey listenng to music and watching the miles and miles of paddy fields go by. I guess it was like any 13 hr train journey could be like but the worst part was between 3 and 7 when time literally seemed to stand still! Had some dinner tho and the last part went ok. we arrived into Murgao sation at abot mdnight and originally the plan was to stay there the night but as Canacona was so close we decided to be cheeky and jumped back on the train to try and make it to Palolem that night.
Unfortunately the plan backfired and we got busted by the ticket guy so just played dumb and had to get off to buy a ticket and wait for the 1am train. That came at 1.30 in the end and we had only bought sitting seats but as it was just 30 mins down the line we stood at the end of one of the sleeper sections but again just as we pulled into Canacona the bloody ticket man came and fined us 100 rupees for being in the wrong carriage!! He then led us out and inforemd us that there are no vehicles around at 2am in Palolem (surprisingly!) So we had to walf down this sketchy pitch black path (out came the torches) to a main raod but at a cross roads! so didnt have a clue which way to go to the beach. Luckily some guy came out from the darkness and pointed us in the right direction and it was a straight 2 km road to the beach! with not a sign of any people around let alone a rickshaw we had to walk there with all our stuff! (much to Lucys annoyance!).
After a few pit stops and narrow escapes from barking mad dogs we finally made it at 3.30am!! Only took us 36 hrs!! Agian there wasnt much going on so we headed to the nearest hut village and met an Israli guy who showed us his place then tried to find us a room but no-one was around so we had to sit it out under the stars on a bench until sunrise! Nedless to say that we wee all a little tired and grumpy by the morning but we pulled ourselves together and lugged our stuff along te beach anf after a few places found a descent place.
We are staying at Rosy Paradise in the huts on stilts! Quality! its only 200 rupees a night for a double and we are sitting right on the beach! So close that we coukld throw a stone from our balcony and hit the sea!!
The beach is amazing!! About a concave km of pure sand and the beach is lined with coconut trees! Its picture pefect to say the least! after just half an hour on the beach the gruelling journey had well been worth it!
Again its absolutely roasting here and the water id bathtub warm so have just been chilling on the beach the last couple of days and loving it!
I shall update again soon with mor news but we're heading out for dineer now so gotta go.
