Hello,
We have spent the last two days in Hue, the ancient capital of Vietnam. The weather has been a bit groggy but its still quite warm. Yesterday we visited the imperial city, in Dales words it was 'crumbly'. The city was held within large walls and had a beautiful Emperors palace in the centre of the grounds. Parts of the city have been restored giving you an idea of what it would have looked like before its decline. We went to book our tickets at train station and almost ended up buying tickets for Na Trang halfway down the coast-oops!
Today we rented a scooter and went tomb hunting! We drove along the river and visited several of the grand monuments built to pay respect to past Emperors. The most impressive tomb was of Tu Duc. It was designed with a beautiful lake in the centre surrounded by pavilions and several ceremonial buildings nestled in the trees. We also took the opertunity to drive around the country side and got a little bit lost in some paddy fields!
We will try to upload the pics soon!
lots of love liz and dale
