hello all,
Our last stop in China was the capital Beijing. We stayed in the old hutongs area just north of the city centre. The hutongs are traditional style residential streets, some of them now converted to boutique and tourist shops.
We took an off the beaten track hike to the great wall. We found our way to the un-renovated Jiankou section. To get there we had to bargain a ride from some touts who dropped us off in a car park in a quiet little village. they pointed at some steep hills before driving off! after a couple of hours scramble up the slopes (and after taking a long detour) we arrived at the most awe inspiring views we have ever seen. We were the only ones on this part of the wall and we took the time to enjoy the landscape, walking along a small, safe section of the wall.
We also went to the Forbidden City and Tianenmen square, then marked our end in China with the most amazing peking duck and a Chinese acrobat show (suggested by Kate Crowell).
Christmas eve to christmas day will be spent travelling to India so we will catch up with you when we are there.
Dale and Liz xx
