Seasons Greetings from Shanghai,
We did a whistle stop tour of the city as our planned four days here were reduced to two as Liz fell ill with a stomach bug and spent some time recovering. She's all better now :)
We strolled along the famous Bund on the river. The Bund is a stretch of European and American style buildings from the early 1900's, the remnants of the early international trade port. Across the river from the Bund is Shanghai's modern skyline.
We also explored Yuyuan Bazaar and the old town, we got dumplings from a locally famous restaurant there. We got a flavour of modern Shanghai along the neon lit shopping street Ninjang Lu.
On our last day we hit the museum, french concession and the site of the first congress of the CCP (chinese Communist Party). In the museum we saw a HSBC bank note from 1900 and also a gold coin with Genghis Khan on!
Shanghai has given us a real taste of modern China and we have enjoyed our time here. Off to Beijing for our final days in China.
