Back to the past doesn't have the same ring - but we are back in Mount Surprise - this time by road.
We've continued our western run - with 2 nights here at Mount Surprise at what is probably the best caravan park (this excludes national parks) we have stayed at. A large site but plenty of trees means you are not on top of each other. An impressive (and large) camp fire, pizza oven and shared rec area has helped bump it to the top of the list.
A side trip here to the Lava tubes in the Undara Volcanic national park. This included a stroll around Kilkani Volcano (dormant - last eruption 20,000 years ago).
The tubes themselves were very impressive. Have a look at the pics.
Our guide for the day just happened to be in the tent site next to us. His Wife and 2 young girls (5 & 2) were very friendly and even took Dad on a fishing trip to a nearby creek. 3 fish all returned and a heap of red claw (type of yabbie) meant a nice dessert after pizza.
This family were on the road for what has meant to be 1, then 2, then 3 and now until they get bored. We have not meet any other families doing this but was great to see. The girls were very funny and I am not sure who was doing the babysitting - us or them!
Up earlyish to continue west. Still no rain (or clouds since we left cooktown!) Blue sky is so boring (not)!
