Did you know Croydon in some languages means 'land of rusted mining equipment'.
The early surveyors/town planners in this area must have know something as how could anyone guess that this is exactly what croydon is filled with.
If you like looking at rusted out boilers, steam engines, wheels, rods then I recommend a quick look at the attached pics. If this gets you going then maybe you should dro ppast the nearest greyhound bus office and book a trip here. There is a crazy amount of this old stuff - infact there is more rusted old stuff than residents (heaps vs about 180).
We did see the morning rush when 3 caravans drove past our caravan park within about 10 minutes but missed the afternoon rush. This place is tiny and if you take out the restored historic buildings I am not sure what is left or where people actually live. Perhaps old mine shafts!
There was a nice lake a few ks out of town - made for a nice 7km jog there and back. There is a, relative to the town anyway, huge rodeo groups which I am not sure would get much of a work out very often.
We did meet an old bloke at the pub who's place was littered with old cars, trucks and tanks. he would have over 30 of them with his favourite being a 1971 GTO. He was very proud of it - see the photos.
Did meet some backpackers who have stopped their for several months to work in the pub and local store. I can't see them finding much to do outside working. Drinking and running/walking to the lake maybe.
