This was supposed to be a weekly update but I got distracted so we now have a fortnightly update. Plus this first one will be a bullet point summary of interesting facts and titbits we have discovered so far and I promise to make a better effort in the next instalment.
- It is difficult to find a town in Australia where Dad doesn't know someone (Random friend meeting scoreboard: 2-1 to Dad. My stat was Ryde Kenny from Hockey at Dicky Beach in QLD!).
- Friday nights at country bowling clubs should come with a warning message for those under 35. I had a brief glimpse into the (possible) future and I'm not sure I liked it.
- Music future fact: Our musical entertainment at the aforementioned bowling club was billed as playing music from the 70s, 80s, 90s and 2020s! I was naturally intrigued at what future musical gems the time-traveling duo from Tasmania would tempt us with. I don't want to ruin the surprise however I can say that Neil Diamond and Cliff Richard appear to be getting some future airtime - although they must have released a 'best of' album as I recognised most of the songs already.
- There is some fantastic scenery and walks at New England National Park (Point Lookout) and Cathedral Rock NP, Tenterfield (Bald Rock is up there as one of the best half-day walks I have done) and Lamington NP (just over QLD border).
- I thought cane toads were heading south but have made it to the sunshine coast with zero sighting - we have seen snakes, goannas, leeches, a blue crayfish (who was a feisty b*****) and heaps of birds (eastern Whips are my favourite). Dad has a crow which has been following him from Port Macquarie.
- I have made one surf rescue so far (Dicky Beach on the sunshine coast). He was a chubby little b***** and with the strong current it was tougher than what it looks like on Bondi Rescue. The only reaction from the lifeguard appeared to be when I was swearing about him to Dad as I walked up the beach!
- Don't dis railway museums and Tenterfield's, is like, so OMG.
- When camping I don't agree with the thesis by Garbage - 'I'm only happy when it rains'.
- It's fun hearing the waves from the beach crashing as you lie in your tent.
- It's less fun listening to your dad snore in said tent. Nor is hearing the young English couple in the next tent 'getting friendly' if you know what I mean. Hearing both at the same time is a version of bingo I don't wish to be a part of.
- One Direction sightings - Zero
If you want to know where we have been so far best to have a look at the map on the blog. We have done just under 2,000 kms and so far have made it to the sunshine coast in QLD - Dicky beach to be precise.
That is not too bad in 2 weeks however we have a long long way to go if we want to see as roughly planned (NQ Coast to Cairns, Darwin, Eastern Kimberly, Alice and Uluru - then back home somehow. I had a quick look at some of the distances we have to travel to hit that and the numbers were very big!!
All going well we should be able to achieve all this before our mid-July finish date but will see how we go.
Keep your eye out for my special topic photo albums - so far we have a focus on park benches of the world as well as the occasional distinctive tree!
Hope you are all well.

Bj You managed to mention Dicky Beach about 6 times. Something going on at that place? Worth visiting?
csjacka Only because that's where I was when writing the note. It is nice but the entire sunshine coast is very busy. Pretty rough surf though. Strong currents, etc. I was ok as I am quite a strong swimmer.
Sue Drice Hey CJ, The blogs are getting fewer and further between, come on you need to do better, what else have you got to do with your time but listen to the night time sounds from inside & outside the tent!!!!
Maverick GR55 and KE30 are not reconciling, can you please log on and help? :-)
csjacka 2 things. 1. Maverick- in your dreams. 2. Sorry no access to sap!
Hoey If you decide you have had too much water and need a bit of dry then head inland to St George and Dirranbandi. When i played rugby league for the Mungindi Under 8's we used to travel up there for our away matches. Scarponi says there are some nice sugar mills up at Childers if thats what you like!
