Drove to Abergavenny this morning and caught the train to Cardiff (about 45 minutes trip) arriving around 10.30am
Our friends picked us up the station and took us a driving tour of Cardiff city and the redeveloped docks area. We had assumed Cardiff would be a dull, grey, old looking place but how wrong we were. It is spacious, clean and historical with lots of green spaces and very well redeveloped dock area around the old shipyards.
They then drove us to an old thatched stone pub in Barry (home town of Julia Gillard) about 1 hour from Cardiff for an excellent lunch and a few traditional Welsh ales
Next on to St Fagans a village created in lush green countryside where old Welsh buildings have been reconstructed on site after their deconstruction in their original location. It is brilliant because everything is done using the original materials with great precision to rebuild the original building. Could have spent hours there but were short of time.
Ray, Gaynor and Tony dropped us back at Cardiff Central and the train got us back to Abergavenny at 6.30pm
Had a great time and really enjoyed catching up with them and they went to so much trouble organising a wonderful day for us
Shopping in Abergavenny, back at the cottage by 8pm for a ham and salad dinner and a few drinks
A great day
Tomorrow Deirdre is coming over to join us till Monday which will be great - just need to stock up the vino!
