Had planned to do some countryside walks today but steady rain in the morning so not sure what to do. A very timely visit by the owner to collect her money led to some suggestions re places to drive to.
So we ended up doing a round trip to Abergavenny then on single lane back roads through lush green woods to a monastery ruin which was amazing. Then up over a mountain plateau where the misty cloud created a unique drive, then down into Hay on Wye an old town with lots of interesting buildings and antique shops. The rain had stopped so we walked around the town and poked around in some of the shops.
Then drove on more back roads and lush green woods back to Crickhowell where we bought some wine and salad veg to go with the rib eye steak we had bought from the local butcher in Hay on Wye
Back at our cottage we enjoyed another home cooked meal (2 in a row is a bit ridiculous) and fairly early night
Tomorrow we go to Cardiff to catch up with friends we met on our Douro cruise in Portugal a few years ago.
