Final full day in Berlin today
Caught trains to the Spreewald / Lubbenau about 1.5 hours out of Berlin. It is forest and low lying "swamp" area where a combination of natural and man made waterways are traversed in punt and pole wooden boats. It is a world biosphere nature area of great beauty.
Well due the floods the punt boats aren't going so we took the nature walk through beautiful dense forest alongside the canals. Indigenous people called the Sorbs still live in the forest (in homes) and speak there own language version of German. We were kind of glad the boats were off because the 4km walk was very peaceful and beautiful.
Out from 10am to 5pm and really enjoyed it including negotiating the trains and platforms
Have to get organised tonight because taxi is picking us up at 5am tomorrow to go to the airport for our 7.05am flight to Venice with Easyjet
Venice will be a chill out as our tiny apartment is on the Grand Canal with a deck overlooking it. We plan to relax on the deck, get lost in the maze of streets, eat at a range of little Italian restaurants (and go to Murano to buy glass - NOT Alan's idea!)
