Explore Berlin day 1 rearranged!
Caught tram nearby to Alexanderplatz (centre of Berlin) or so we thought - stopped half way and told everyone to get off and catch the subway. Typically we decided to walk and headed off in the wrong direction. After reorienting ourselves we eventually arrived. Turns out Berlin has a "tour down under" on today so no trams into centre and no yellow hop on off bus which was to be our reconnoitering strategy. So we walked around and found the Hoffbrauhaus (built in grog sensor) for an earlyish drink. Fantastic salad lunch at Oli Cafe (no grog!) and long walk to Mauer Park for flea market and wide open spaces where families set up BBQ and picnics (thousands of people)
After our traditional afternoon rest we went to the supermarket to buy stuff for a platter dinner on our balcony - closed on Sunday (so much for our first attempt to have dinner at home). Found a little Thai restaurant nearby and food was excellent. Just as we were finishing up the skies opened and we couldn't walk home for quite a while so we HAD to sit under cover on the footpath at their outside tables and drink wine.
Eventually rain eased so we were able to head home
