I woke up at 03.00a.m ready to embark on, what I can only hope is, "The journey of my Life!". Funny enough, I don´t feel nervous nor excited. I guess it doesn´t really feel real untill you´re there and doing it.
Susie was an absolute star and drove me all the way to Heathrow airport her cronky old fiesta which took around 1.5 hours! We said our goodbyes outside terminal 3, and then I entered to be greeted by my parents.
My flight took off on time and it was not long until we arrived at Madrid. There at the departure gate I saw my first traveller, female and she appeared to be doing it on her own! When we were on the flight to Lima, I went over to where she was sitting and started talking to her. She told me that she had thought the exact same thing about me (lone femal traveller) and hacd first spotted me at Heathrow. We exchanged contact details and she advised me on a couple of hostels which she recommended.
I arrived at Lima airport 30minutes late of schedule but still had a 12 hour wait for my connecting flight. Believe me, those were the longest 12 hours of my life! The other volunteers didn´t arrive at the airport intil atleast 7 hours after me, but it was a blessing when they did. I met another lone traveller, who again I introduced myself to at Lima àirport. His name was Andy and he was flying onto New York after travelling around South America for 2 months. Again I got lots of good advice and stories from him, and once again, my travells came to life.
Our flight left Lima airport around 06.15 am. Flying over the Andes was amazing. I think I was the only one who stayed awake, soley for the spectacular view. I´ve added some pictures so have a look.
We arrived in a cold Ayacucho, early Sunday morning, deshrevelled and tired but alast, we were here!
