Cameron (one of the other volunteers) and I were invited to a medics ball at the main hotal near the plaza. Earlier that day, we all went to the stadium to watch a football game. Inti Gas and Lima were playing each other. We arrived at the stadium at 11.00 a.m 2.5 hours in advance of the game, advised by Rudy. We bought tickets for the stalls in the shade and only realised on arrival that ¨shade¨ stalls are those stalls that as the hours pass, the sun is behind you as oppose to on your face. We were baking! The other volunteers adopted lobster style necks and thighs and I had a touch of dehydration after having to drink near boiling point water from a plastic bag! It was fun though to say the least. We were supporting Inti Gas (the Ayacuchian team) who started off playing really crap but somehow won the game! Every other minute there was some player pretending to be injuried!
Later that night, Cameron and I went to the ball. Inded, cinderella here went out and rented a ball gown and some shoes for the grand affair. All the doctors from the centro de saluds and local hospitals in and around Ayacucho attended and Angel, Paula and Juan from our clinic were there too. Honestly, these people know how to have a good time. We danced all night, sat for a three course meal and sipped Inka cola and wine. All my favourite Peruvian songs were played, I was in my element! Afterwards, Cameron, Angel and I went to a club called Killa (which means moon in Quchean). This club has an all time panaromic view of the whole off Ayachucho from the cross to the mountains, all lit up like the light on a ping pong machine with the speckled sky in the background. As if I hadn´t fallen in love with Ayacucho already. We danced and drank the cervezas until 6a.m. Just intime to witness the sun set the sky blue and orange beyond the mountain crest.
The following day, Samantha, Laura, Liz and I all went to Rudy´s farm a short drive away. Rudy has a beatiful house and as you walk in , it´s like walking through a time warp with ornaments and memorabilia of antique quality. We wandered amongst his cows, pigs and guinea pigs, took a walk down to the river and I spent a lazy amount of time in Rudy´s hammock reading and sleeping whilst his brother cooked on the outside stove. That was a hot day, and in the peaceful tranquil of the surroundings, I was content!
