We arrived in Cusco yesterday ( Samantha, Sarah, Liz, Laura and myself). We took the plane from Ayacucho at 0735hr and another from Lima to here. We said our goodbyes to Rudy and Alexandro at the airport and now in Cusco, I think we all have very strange feelings. Cusco is very much like Ayacuhco except it´s much more tourist full and hasslesome! It has a plaza with a Cathedral in the centre juSt like Ayacucho.
On our last night in Ayacucho, we headed out to Killa (one of the local night clubs with an amazing view of Ayacucho at night). Everyone ended up turning up, except some on the new volunteers but I had a chance to say a proper goodbye to all the people I had become so found of and it was nice, sad but nice.
On our first day in Cusco we had a city tour. Arrrgh how I despise being a tourist! We were shown around the Cathedral at the main plaza and various other churchs that were taken over by the Spanish invasion where Catholism was forced among these Inka people. The following day we went to Saqsaywaman followed by the Sacred Valleys. The Sacred Valleys were amazing. We hiked up and looked down over an sea of lavish greenage. We then went on to Pisac and had a lovely lunch there. The Alpaca meat was partuculary spectacular there and I ate to my hearts content! After this, we were driving to Ollantaytambo were we walked up steep Inka hills and mused over face shapes in the mountains. We spent the night in a two star hotel however, the room was rather nice and the breakfast spot on. The following morning we took the train to Aguas Caliente where we were met by our English speaking guide, Wagner, who took us to the hotel to drop our bags off and then immediately to the bus to climb up to Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu, well what can I say. Panoramic, breathtaking views of green lushush junglesque mountains, Huana Picchu and the Inka ruins all for us to marvel at to our hearts content. I took some serious pictures that day, each one perfect. The weather was beautiful that day. We talked about the ruins (70percent of which our original), Wagner was very informative, spending 2 hours with us before darting off. We spent the rest of the day walking around the ruins, spending the night in Aguas Caliente. We ruturned to Machu Picchu the following day in the hope to see the sun rise and do part of the Inka trail only to find the rain and the cloud where not going to permit this. We went up to MP but didn´t spend long there and instead relaxed and soaked our aches and pains in the naturally occuring outdoor hot springs in Agaus Caliente - a warm, muggy and wet experience! We stayed that night in Aguas Caliente but returned to Ollantaytambo by train and then Cusco by taxi (2.5 hrs) the folowing day.
