We left Port Hedland after some morning shopping then stopped for lunch @ the Whim Creek Pub (in the middle of nowhere). Then on through Karratha & setup at the Dampier Transit Park, it's a pretty rough little Park, has power but no water to connect to. The Park was cheap & opposite the Port so we had a great view of the huge ships coming in & loading up with iron ore.
While in Dampier we checked out the Gasworks Visitor Centre, this was a great place to learn all about the Woodside Gas Project it had a great little film explaining the whole project & a lot of interactive things for the kids to do.
We also did the Rio Tinto iron ore tour which was fantastic although we had to wear long pants & a long sleeve shirt, I brought some trackies from the op shop for 50c, not really a fashion item but they did the job.
Of course we checked out the Red Dog Statue @ the entrance to Dampier & read about his real story at the local library.
