Today our plan was to head to the Grand Palace, but first we headed to the travel office to book a day put in Chiang mai. We then hopped into a taxi and headed to the palace. We had to wear long trousers as you weren't allowed shorts within the palace walls (mega hot). We grabbed a free map and then paid for an audio guide to help us through the various statues and buildings. There was so much to take in, you couldn't not appreciate the attention to detail and craftsmanship. The main attraction of the palace is the Emerald Buddha, a statue carved from Jasper that was originally thought to be emerald. According to legend it was created in India 2000 years ago but now has pride of place in Wat Phra Kaew (temple of the emerald Buddha). We then headed to the river as we planned to get on a ferry back to the port near the hostel (not bad scenery for 30 Baht). In the evening we returned to khao San rd and went to a bar called gazebo, a bar on the top floor of a building. It was a Moroccan themed open air bar which was very refreshing. We enjoyed a few drinks and I also experienced my first Shisha, apple flavoured. As we has to check out of Cozy in the morning we decided to get some beers and head back to the hostel. When we attempted to get a taxi the first driver quoted 500 baht! We turned him down and manage to find a meter taxi. As the taxi driver attempted to pull away I heard Dave shout woah woah woah! He hadn't managed to get in the taxi yet! We made it back to cozy for just 59 baht and went to bed.
