Today we rose slightly weary after one to many late night beers. We had decided to get up early to head to chatuchak market (the worlds largest with over 22,000 stalls). We hailed a taxi and set off. The heat is still persistent but I was appreciating the coolness in the front seat of the taxi. We arrived at the market and set about seeing as much as we could. Along the way we saw many interesting sights and attempted to barter with the stall owners. They were having none of it. I bought a few tshirts and a few other things. Dave and I had bought matching singha beer tshirts. Which we would adorn later on. After 3/4 hours we decided to head back to the hostel as the heat was ridiculous (peaked at 39 degrees). We made it back to the hostel and decided to have a nap before hitting the town.
We had decided to head to Koh San rd where many backpackers reside in Bangkok. We were all famished so we opted for an Indian restaurant. The food was lovely but overly plentiful. Dave had chicken samosa to start then his standard chicken tikka masala, Laura onion bhajis and chicken Korma and I had chicken spring roll and chicken saag. Once we had recovered from the bountiful feast we set about looking for an Irish bar Dave had read about. We ended up spending an hour outside the bar as we bought another beer tower. We also spotted our second ladyboy, this one was much more convincing and had smaller hands. Post tower we headed to the Irish bar on the second floor. Entertainment was fairly surreal as 4 Thai guys were happily jamming to alt rock such as linkin park, nirvana and franz Ferdinand.... Musically they were on the money and had an overly enthusiastic bass guitarist.
During the music we had altrady started on a vodka bucket, as the bucket emptied I decided we should step it up a notch. I remember Ste talking about a drink called sansong so I checked the menu an this was also available in bucket form. 2 buckets later the band had finished and we set off to find a taxi, we found one after our 3rd sansong bucket.... It's all a bit hazy after this. But Laura got chatted up by another ladyboy "you so sexy".
We eventually made it back home via 7-11 where I was delighted to see a fanta grape slushy machine yumyum.
