Today I set off for an adventure to the outback to work on a cotton farm. After saying goodbye to Kirsty it was time to head off to the airport for the short flight out to Moree. After arriving in Moree I quickly realised that I was truely in the outback. There was not a lot in the small town and I was staying fifty kilometers away from the actual town. The work was pretty tough and the hours were long. Going from being chilled most days and not really thinking about time, to working twelve hour shifts was a bit of a shock to the system. After a couple of days on day shift I was changed to night shift. I was basically watering the cotton everyday which meant I had to start about 100 pipes every shift to get the water down the rows of cotton. I had great fun with all the guys on the farm. The main highlights were meeting the guys and getting to live in the middle of nowhere, where it was completely silent at night. Getting to see all the different animals out in the wild was pretty cool. I got to see Kangaroo's, rabbit's, foxes, wild boars, snake's and some dangerous spider's. One night whislt I was walking through the field I heard some rustling in the cotton behind me, but as it was the middle of the night and my torch wasn't that great I couldn't see what it was. I assumed it was just a roo jumping through the cotton so continued back on with my work. Two minutes later I turned round only to be greeted with the head of an Emu staring right at me. I got the fright of my life and didn't really know what to do. So I just jumped up and down to scare it off and thankfully it worked. Another moment on the farm was on my second last night, I was driving over to one of the fields and on route came across a red bellied black snake. Now I had seen some brown, black and tiger snakes previously on the farm, but I had never came across one of these snakes. So I tried to kill it but it was too quick and by the time I had got out of the car it had slithered away. Then later that night as I picked up a container from one of the ditches I looked down at my hand only to be greeted with a red back spider on the back of my hand. The Red back spider is one of the most dangerous spiders in Australia so I quickly flicked it off my hand. After this there were no more incidents and I finished up in relative peace. I had a good time working on the farm and all the guys on the farm were great guys but I was ready to leave and get back to travelling with Kirsty.
