Our first day in Sydney was spent walking around exploring the city. We took a walk around Mrs MacQuarie's point and got a fantastic view of the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. After this we walked round to the Opera House and viewed the amazing sight that it is. We then spent the rest of the time wandering round the city, looking at the shops and the many different Christmas decorations. That night the hostel was running an early Christmas dinner so Kirsty and I took the opportunity to meet some people from the hostel and also get a good feed. The food turned out 2 be not that great, however the foam party later in the night was fun and we got to meet lots of new people.

Christmas eve and it was sunny. A very strange feeling for me and Kirsty, but Kirsty has been away from home before for Christmas so she knew what 2 expect. We had quite a chilled out day walking around the area where we were staying and looking round the shops. That night we decided to go and have a couple of drinks to celebrate Christmas and shortly after midnight we decided to go to bed because we were getting up early 2 go to the beach to celebrate Christmas.

CHRISTMAS DAY !!!!!! How strange to wake up on Christmas day and not open any pressie's or be in the house all wrapped up cause its cold outside. Instead we were preparing to head down to the beach for a BBQ. Once we arrived at the beach and met our friends we saw the great efforts they had went to, with a gazebo up, gas BBQ lit, big buckets full of ice and cold drinks, not to mention all the food. We spent the day chatting and having fun with everybody, the weather was fantastic and everybody was in good spirits enjoying the day.

We went back down to Coogee beach to meet our friends once we finally got up since Christmas day was a late nite by the time we had both spoken to our friends and family back home. It was a great day although there were a few sore heads when we arrived. I think they had partied on way longer that Kirsty and I.

Today we went down to the Aquarium and wild life centre to see all the different types of animal's Australia has to offer, but unfortunately as its the summer holidays for the school kids over here evrything was packed and the lines were so long to get in. So we decided to give them both a miss as were weren't going to stand in line for over two hours. We just spent the rest of the day walking round the harbour front looking at the different boats and little shops that line the waters edge.

Today we were going to meet some Australian friends that we met in Miami. So both Kirsty and I were really looking forward to meeting them since we hadn't seen them in so long. We met them for lunch in a part of Sydney called " The Rocks". It has some nice places to eat and some cool bars with rooftop terrace's. So we spent the rest of the day catching up and laughing at the many stories that were told from our time together in Miami.

We had a really chilled out day, reading in the park catching some sun and going for a walk. This was good as the last few days had been pretty hectic and the following few days would be crazy as well. An early bed was had as we were getting up early to get in line in the morning for a good spot 2 watch the fireworks.

Today we got up early to got to Mrs MacQuarie's point to get the best view for the fireworks at midnight. We thought we had got down there early enough, but to our surprise we had not. There were people camping out from nine oclock the previous evening to be at the front of the queue to get into the area. Once the viewing area reached 20,000 people it would be closed for safety reasons. With this in mind Kirsty and I did a little bit of que jumping to make sure we got in and got a good spot. We were in stealth mode as we sneaked into the line about fifty meters back from the entrance. This was lucky as the line was about a kilometer down the road when we arrived. As we were waiting to get in we got chatting to some nice people from Manchester and we decided to join them for the day, as all the other people from our hostel hadn't left to come down yet. Once we had selected our spot for the fireworks we sat down for the fiveteen hour wait until midnight. The sun was out and everybody was having fun so the time passed pretty quickly as we got to know our new friends. At six oclock in the harbour there was an air show with planes doing some crazy stunts as well as doing some sky writing. After this was over another plane flew into the harbour and spelt out "will you marry me Barahah" so somebody was getting a special question that day. At nine oclock they put on a fireworks display for the kids to enjoy so its not too late and they can get back to bed early. This display was excellent and got both Kirsty and I wondering how good the big display at midnight was going to be. We were very excited by this point. After this at ten thirty there was a boat show in the harbour. This is where all the boats get lit up and sail around the harbour showing of all their bright colours. It was really nice as there was a whole variety of different ships from really old one's to present day ships. It was nearly time for the main event and at this point lots of people who didn't have as good a spot started to push forward to get a better view. Some people began to get annoyed and a few arguements started, but these were quickly dealt with by the security staff and everyone was left to enjoy the night. Midnight struck and the fireworks began, the noise and colour of the fireworks were simply amazing. The whole variety of different shapes and designs they made was breath taking. Kirsty and I had never seen fireworks like this. They had fireworks going off of the bridge and from all around the harbour perfectly in time to music. The waterfall of fireworks that fell from the bridge into the water below was by far the highlight for me. The fifteen hour wait was totally worth it to see the amazing sights and sounds of the fireworks. This will certainly be a night we both remember for the rest of our lives. After the fireworks were over we headed back to the hostel to get a shower and head down to meet some of our other friends. However once we got back we were a liitle tired from being out in the sun all day so we ended up going to sleep instead. Well I almost did until our room mate came in and I decided to go for a couple of drinks with him to celebrate. The celebrating continued until seven in the morning, then it was definately time to get some sleep.

New Years day ! As we hadn't go the chance to meet up with all our friends the previous night we decided we would meet them today. So after a phone call or two we located them and set off to meet them. They were already out and had been out since nine in the morning because they had been out to celebrate the Irish new year, which happened at eleven in the morning australia time. We arrived at three in the afternoon and as we arrived at the pub they were in a guy fell out the door drunk as a skunk. It was quite funny to see! When we entered the pub everybody in the place was uber drunk and the music was playing so loud. We finally found our friends as the place was packed and they were in the same state as everybody else. It was like being in a pub or club at two in the morning back home, but it was only three in the afternoon. Needless to say we stayed for one drink and a bit of chat before we left and went to meet the guys we were with the day before. We found a quiet bar and had a bit of lunch and a couple of drinks with them. It was a nice chilled out day and I even got to watch Man United play since it was getting shown on the t.v.

Today was a chilled out day walking round the shops and sitting in the park enjoying the sunshine as we were going to meet some scottish friends at night to watch the old firm game. After arranging to meet them in the cheers bar Kirsty and I headed down there. As the friends we were meeting supported Rangers we were more than surprised to find that they had chosen the official Celtic supporters club in Sydney as a venue. It was interesting to say the least. Everybody had their Celtic shirts on and were chanting a variety of Celtic songs. There was even a guy on a mic starting the songs it was mental. Luckily Celtic won and the crowd were very happy, well all except our friend who was upset that his team had lost. (Turns out 1/2 the crowd we were meeting were Rangers and 1/2 were Celtic!! so at least half of our friends left happy!!)

As we were coming to the end of our time in Sydney we spent our day chilling out and enjoying the sunshine. It was a good day and after the busy time we had lately it was good to have a bit of time to ourselves.
