Hi,
Writing this from Hanmer Springs on the South Island. After our last blog have we visited a Mauri museum and watched some traditional Mauri singing and dancing and the Haka! They also had a couple of Kiwi's there (the bird) which were very cute. We then made our way to Wellington by coach and stayed in our first dorm room. In Wellington we went on a Lord of the Rings tour to where a lot of the scees from the Shire were filmed and we also went to the Weta Cave which is a museum/shop for the effects company who worked on the films. We then made our way to the South Island on the ferry from Welligton and hired a car when we arrived in Picton. The scenery in the South Island is awesome and its a bit quieter here. We drove to Kaikoura, spent the first day wandering around and then yesterday Jenny went on her swimming with dolphins experience. Over to Jenny;
It was awesome! It was swimming with wild dolphins, so we went out on a boat into the pacific ocean at 6am, found where the dolphins were and then they tell you to just jump in! I had a wetsuit and snorkelling stuff on and it was just amazing. We saw the sun rise from the boat and there was about 500 completely wild Dusky dolphins swimming around a group of about 15 people and a boat. They were very friendly dolphins who liked to be entertained by the swimmers, they swam right up close and alongside me, and swam in circles around me, although we weren't allowed to touch them. Chris stayed on the boat, didn't go in the water, but I think he got some good pictures. I did throw up constantly on the boat until we got back to shore but it was definately worth it! Thanks to my brother for the birthday money :)
We are now a little bit more inland and it's really beautiful, the whole island seems to be covered with pretty mountains and hills. We're staying at a holiday park where we have our own little cabin, it's very quiet and peaceful. The sun is shining and we're just chilling out, this is the life!
Can't upload photos here but hopefully will do soon
Love Jenny & Chris x
