Day two in Athens started off with a nice breakfast at our hotel. A pile of eggs on display caused some discussion and then a challenge. I dug in eagerly but Sal's effort ended quickly with the discovery of a black yoke.
We then ventured towards Syntagma Square to find a recommended travel agent. We managed to organise a ferry for the following day and accommodation on Mykonos and Santorini. I've got a feeling we were stung tourist rates despite my best attempts at foreign language flirting. Having said that the lady who helped us was fantastic.
While we waited for paperwork to be sorted we caught the changing of the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. A colorful show displaying unusual flexibility. By accident we then found ourselves in the National Gardens where Sallie fell in love with a pond full of turtles.
After collecting our paperwork we climbed back up to the Acropolis to do some more exploring. Unfortunately the new museum has not been open while we've been here which is disappointing. The ruins themselves are amazing and the views are sensational. It's just a shame all of the areas are just lacking a bit of maintenance.
We took a bit too long enjoying the views and for some reason all the attractions closed at three despite being advertised as closing at seven, so we missed a few more things.
It didn't really matter though as we discovered some of the best ice-cream I've ever eaten and our mood lifted.
After looking at some other temples and Zappeio Palace we made our way to the Panathenaic Stadium where the first modern Olympic Games were held in 1896. Parts of the site date back to the 4th Century BC though. I really enjoyed the stadium and walking through the competitors tunnel and sitting in the kings seat. Sallie spent most of her time wondering why some statues had genitals and why some didn't.
Dinner was at Thanisis where we enjoyed some delicious souvlakis before heading back for some drinks on the roof top bar at our hotel enjoying the views.
Early night it will be for an early ferry tomorrow to Mykonos - very excited!

T-Bone Did "Salad" look at any other parts of the statues or just their genitals?
