Day four of our trip and it started with a glorious buffet breakfast at the Princess' Kapari restaurant. Sallie rediscovered her love for Nutella. After her fourth slice of toast covered in thick chocolate I tried to offer her some fruit but received a harsh growl, similar to a dog guarding their food, in return.
We then organised a quad bike and the owner collected us from the hotel. After some basic paperwork and watching an angry Chinese man lose it because no one could verify his license, we were on our way.
Our first port of call was the old port so we could organise a short ferry for the following day. The bike's speed maxed out at about 60km but around some of the narrow roads on the island you don't need to go much quicker.
To save a bit of time I'll list the places we visited in order and a quick impression:
Diakofti, Anavolousa, Korfos - Looks to be part of the island that has been forgotten. Offers great views of the harbour but very dirty.
Psarou, Platys Gialos, Paraga - Pretty beaches by Greek standard and all have a number of Taverns right on the water.
Paradise - If your idea of paradise is old Eureka crossed with Static, graffitied and then dumped on a beach you will love this place. Tropicana... what a load of bananas!
Super Paradise - Our pick of the party beaches. We stopped here for a bit and caught some sun. I was greeted by a gorgeous woman so it was hard not to like the place. Surprisingly clean given the standard of the rest of the island.
Agia Anna, Kalafatis - A very pretty ride in and the stone walls everywhere are quite an impressive feat. For resort lovers Kalafatis offers a great looking place.
Ftelia - On the other side of the island and sheltered from the southerly winds. The drive in is a bit industrial but the beach would be quite pretty if someone put in some effort.
Panormos, Agios Sostis - Looks to be the new part of the island. The beaches here are the most stunning we discovered on the island.
The water on most of the beaches is crystal clear and the colours the sun reflects are sweet candy to the eye.
It took us about seven hours to cover the island, but on the bike you could get from one end to the other in under an hour if you wanted. One thing to watch out with the low powered bikes is some of the steep hills. Sal had to hike a few on foot for us to get out, which was a pretty decent hike for her little legs.
On our return we chilled at the pool for a bit and then headed into town for dinner and some drinks. We tried a recommended restaurant called Nikos as we were looking for something affordable. We both had some pasta and I had a bit more Mykonian Pie, which I have fallen in love with.
While eating we began chatting to a couple from the US. They were on a Cruise that had just docked for a few hours. Phil and Bonnie Smelley are your stereotypical Americans who work in insurance and compare everything to their hometown Atlanta. We had a nice time discussing the world with them though.
After dinner we walked around for a bit and enjoyed some homemade delicious ice-cream and the excitement of the cruise ship being in town.
