Another morning, another tea, another croissant, another blog entry from my favourite place on earth, the Caffe Bene. As planned nanna and I made our way to the Upper East Side stopping at a few spots to splurge our money on the way. You know exactly when you have arrived to the Upper East Side as the whole atmosphere changes. Suddenly you are surrounded by people making more money than ive probably ever dreamed of, the shops are all familiar and tempting even though you know you cant afford anything from them and the streets and apartments are among the most beautiful I have ever seen. Its also amazing how ever street, every garden, every apartment reminds me of a scene from gossip girl.
We slowly strolled though the streets and as we came closer to 72nd street, I knew we were getting closer to Ladurée and I couldn't wait to get there. I crossed the lights onto Broadway between 70th and 71st street and just in the near distance I could see the draped curtains with 'LADUREE' on top and the macaroon creations peeking through the windows. I suddenly increased the pace in which I was walking and before I knew it, right before my eyes lay what seemed like thousands of beautiful macaroons. I chose to get a box of 6 which came in the same box Blaire's did in gossip girl, (what a coincidence) only mine was purple and silver and hers was green and silver. I chose my 6 flavours, payed the $22 and took some snaps of the café before heading to central park to enjoy my new loves. Nanna and I got a hot dog for lunch from a side walk cart on the way and found a nice spot in the middle of the park to sit and eat. After my hot dog it was dessert time…macaron time! I chose the Salted Caramel and from the first bite, I was in heaven. Personally I would fly to Paris just to buy the macarons everyday. Laduree flies them in from Paris every morning and the evidence of world-class macarons was certainly obvious.
When I got back to the hotel I put the macarons in the ice bucket and headed out again to go get my palms read by a psycic. I was a little bit nervous and scared about what they would say but I was too curious to not do it. Unfortunately the lady wasn't there and there was a message on the door saying to come back at 6 but we had reservations so I didn't plan to return. On the way back from the place, I spotted Urban Outfitters and although I basically bought the whole shop in L.A. and Vegas, I thought Id go in for a look to see if they had anything new. Of course they did which meant of course I spent more money but that's fine by me.
For dinner we went back to the Olive Garden and were seating upstairs right next to the window which meant we had amazing views of times square and the dancers at the bottom showing off their moves and busking for tips. They were so impressive and it was a lovely last night in Times Square.
Today we leave Times Square are heading to Brooklyn to stay for the next 5 days. Its still New York and the holiday isn't over yet but I'm so bummed we are leaving Times Square...and that means no more Caffe bene for breakfast. Damn it was becoming my tradition and daily routine. I'm really looking forward to Brooklyn and the rest on my stay in New York because I'm trying to ignore the fact this time next week we will be about 100000 feet in the air probably somewhere over the Atlantic ocean heading home.
