It was an early start this morning as i had to sneak into the bathroom and light the candles for poppas birthday. It was so good to see the look on his face when i bought out the mini cupcakes and candles i bought last night, i hope it gave him a good start to the day! After enjoying cake for brekky, we headed to the empire state building and basically just walked until it got closer and closer and we were finally standing below it. We went inside and got the grand tour which took as right to the top. The view was unilke anything ive ever seen. There it was, Manhattan. New york. It was building after building as far as i could see and i felt like i was on top of the world. The view was picture perfect and the moment was much the same. Ill never forget that. It was also really good to see central park, a bit of green, lost in the middle of countless gray sky scrappers. Of course i did the touristy thing and took lots of pictures + spent a s*** load of money in the souvenier shop ( i really have to stop doing that!) But i bought a beautiful christmas bobble for the xmas tree which lights up and has a mini empire state building inside a crystal ball and an Empire State building necklace.
When we left the building we begun walking hoping to come across China Town. In the end it turned out to be a lot futher than we thought but as they say 'its not always about the destination, but often the journey' and today proved it. We walked through Tribeca, The Greenwhich Village, SoHo and NYU before arriving at China town and Little Italy. As we were walking through SoHo, i realised how amazing this little town is. It has a different vibe to it...still with traits of new york but a much more cozy feeling. One day i hope to live in a little appartment in SoHo. Im not usually a big art fan, but i came across a guy who was selling his art work and i ended up talking to him for a good hour. I bought some really unique pieces of art and something really special happened....but i wont say what until i see what happens. But put it this way, it was a very unexpected yet sensational moment for me <3
Anyway we finally arrived in China Town and honestly it felt like bali. Asians trying to lure you into their stalls/shops and buy fake, bad quality brands....not my thing. But it was still so amazing to see a foreign country inside another. And then another when we got to Little Italy. I loved LI because it wasnt so full on like china town and had lots of really good looking resturaunts and fine dining. We decided to catch a cab back to the hotel and fml hailing taxis in new york is more effort than i thought. Practise makes perfect and im on a mission: by the time i leave this city, i better be a pro at it. If i learn how to hail taxi, ill be set.
For dinner we headed down the street just off Broadway and 47th street to a place called red lobster where we had to wait 40 mins to get a table but the wait was definitely worth it! It was lovely and the food was delicious. I also had my first new york cheese cake which was on my bucket list of things to try...put it this way, i will 100% definitely be having another before i leave! And as it was poppas birthday dinner, i requested to our waiter that they bring out poppas apple pie and icecream with a candle on top so they did and even sung the happy birthday song to him. It was pretty special and a birthday i think he will remember <3
After dinner we came back to the hotel but i couldnt help myself...i had to go to the m&m's world across the street. I bought the cutest pj's and a bag of limited edition Rasberry M&M's and also limited eddition White Chocolate m&ms. They are as good as they sound.
So you could say my first full day in new york was beyond incredible. This city really is full of suprises and the thought of ever having to leave...well im trying not to think about that!
