Back here again sitting in Caffe Bene on the corner of Broadway and 49th street, only today I'm starting the day the New York way with a bagel. The day continued out to be exactly how I hoped yesterday and time on my own was exactly what I needed. After the perfect morning I headed to Footlocker to buy a gift for mum and came across my future husband. He was serving me at FL and we were talking and flirting for a while but as I walked out the store he came up to me and said he had left 'something special' for me inside the shoebox. I quickly rushed into the closest store, which happened to be M.A.C and opened the shoebox to find his number with a love heart and 'xxx'. :') He was extremely cute and definitely New York-boyfriend material. I've already planned our wedding in central park next and our new apartment in Soho that will be adorable.
So that was that, when I got back to the room I turned on the music and went completely nuts. I was on my own and I certainly made the most of it. I danced around in my underwear and sung to Rita Ora with the morning rush of Times Square in the background (outside the window) with absolutely no cares in the world. That was a great moment, especially when the song 'Empire state of mind' came on. You know those scenes in a movie where a girl is dancing around her room with messy hair, a cheesy smile and using the end of a hair brush to sing into at the top of their lungs? Yep, that was me. And it was great.
I went down and searched for a place to get lunch, eventually heading to Europa café but I decided to get take away so I could take it to the seating area in the middle of Times Square. As I sat there and ate my sandwich, I was passed by businessmen, dancers, could be models, and New Yorkers from all walks of life. From the outside they look to be living the perfect life and everything I could ask for but I guess you can only wonder if living in New York is everything that it seems. I certainly hope ill be able to really answer that question for myself one day! I can truly see why it is one of the most populous cities on earth.
Late afternoon we all met back in the room and headed to central park for our long run…I was actually pretty excited to run as its been awhile and its central park! The view/path couldn't get much better than that. I begun running and after 3kms I stopped to wait for nana and poppa. Little did I know they had turned around and were heading back? Long story short, I cut through the park and got completely an utterly lost. I came across several maps of the park but they're pretty useless when you have no idea where you are on the map or where you're going! After about an hour of asking people where to go and where I was, I realised I was actually barely in the park and actually on the Upper East Side. Once I got back to where we were meeting I got a big drink of water and nanna and poppa returned shortly after. It was definitely an unexpected experience but at least I got to see a glimpse of the Upper East Side!
As the new york sky became dark, we arranged to go to the Rockefeller plaza to see the skyline at night. When we got to the top of the observation deck, the millions of lights that scattered the city appeared to be more beautiful than I had ever seen them before. The empire state building was lit up all pretty in pink and all the bridges that stretched from borough to borough and resembelled the many wall canvas' i have at home. On the way back we passed 'Magnolia Bakery', a famous cupcake place that I have seen many times in Sex and the city, devil wear Prada etc. and has a reputation in this city for the best cupcakes and sweets. I decided to try a mini red velvet cupcake that was to die for and after sampling their famous banana pudding, I couldn't resist but to get a mini tub of it. It is by far the best thing I've ever had in my life. I wasn't even hungry yet I couldn't get enough of it, it was to die for and it was so good that I've kept and rinsed the tub that it came it. (Don't judge me)
Today nanna and I are returning to the Upper East Side to walk the streets of the apartments owned by the rich and famous and going to Laudree…the long awaited Laudree! It's the best macaron parlour in New York City as they fly the macarons in from Paris everyday! And as my love for macarons has for some reason skyrocketed since I've been here, I can't wait to get there. Its been featured in Gossip girl a few times and I'm hoping to see a little more familiar places as we are walking through the neighbourhood where I witnessed Blaire, chuck, Serena, Nate, Dan etc. live their lives.
Oh boy, i just love this city. It really is my heaven on earth.
