WIKI QUOTE ALERT!
Mancora is a town and beach resort in the Piura Region, in northwestern Peru. It is located in the Talara Province and is capital of the Máncora District.
The Pan-American Highway serves as Máncora's main street. The area is known for its attractive turquoise beaches and good waves, making it a surfing destination.
Summers last from December to April and are very hot. Rain is usual during the night and the temperature can reach over 38 °C. The rest of the year is dry, breezy, and sunny.
Well it was bloody hot and I don't surf.
Had a lovely room in a new part of the hotel with a balcony with cracking views too high up for the mozzies but I kept this from the rest of the group as they had old rooms infested with beasties on the lower floors. I saw this as a reward for being a gent and waiting until last for a room. We had arrived at the hotel at 5am after a sleepless sweaty 10hr nightbus. I didn't get my room until 9 hours later by which point I had been savaged by mozzies, nearly drowned in my own sweat (I did mention it was hot didn't I?) and had started pacing about muttering angrily like Michael Douglas in Falling down. The news that they were short of people to clean rooms while watching the 3 people on reception sit on their arses doing jack for 6 hours obviously calmed me down somewhat. Anyhow as I say I ended up with a quality room so it evened out, sort of. The hotel opened out straight onto the beach so was in a prime location to catch a bit of surfing action which was rather amusing at times. Our guide Reuben organised a fire on the beach one evening which was cool (good job there weren't any acoustic guitars knocking about - wouldn't have hesitated in getting a bit Pete Townshend and stoking the fire if someone had whipped one out and started playing Wonder wall). Just realised I'm starting to sound like a grumpy old man in this entry so will leave it at that... Màncora was nice even if I wasn't : )
