We boarded a ferry from Colonia for the short hop across the Rio de la Plata (River plate) to the amazing city of Buenos Aires. After booking in to our rather plush (in comparison to others experienced along the way) hotel we jumped on a.... you guessed it Spanish speaking city tour and whipped round the major sights to get our bearings. This also took in the amazing Boca suburb which the lads were all excited about as it is home to the Bombonera - the home ground of Argentina's biggest football club The Boca Juniors (the club team of a certain Senior Maradonna). After a whistle-stop tour of the museum, trophy room and a flipping of 2 fingers at the 15ft statue of Diego we made our way out onto the terrace. You can just feel the atmosphere even when its empty so to attend a game against their arch rivals Riverplate would be something else. Apparently the fans won't allow their sponsor Coca-Cola to use the traditional red and white colours as it reflects that of Riverplates so any ads in and around the ground are in black and white! Once back to the hotel I managed to get in contact with the fantastic Catalina, a dear friend of my godmothers who lives in BA and arranged to meet in the Plaza de mayo (the main political square and home to the office of the President, The Casa Rosada - picture Madonna on a balcony and you'll get the idea). Miraculously I managed to find Catalina and my own personal tour of the area began with lots of fascinating story's and insights only a local can give! We stopped off at Catalina's delightful flat for an ice cold beer before heading towards the Plaza Dorrego where I had my first taste of the tango (watching I may add... the participation part would follow the next evening). We then went to a fabulous restaurant full of Porteños (locals), ate the most amazing bife de chorizo steak, drank a cracking bottle of Malbec and had the most fantastic company - what more could you ask for!?! How's about a breathtaking lightening display, a light refreshing rain shower and the heavens opening upon reaching the safety of the hotel... Yup that should just about do it ; ) - thank you Catalina for an amazing introduction to your fabulous home town!!!!

9 Sounds like Buenos Aires lived up to expectations Alex. How great that Catalina was able to give of her time to show you some of the best her home city can offer. Hope you are now relaxing/enjoying Barilouche after the long bus trip from BA. Keep up the great Blog. I love it! Mumx
